Interesting, an oil cooler in much cooler climate than it's normal environment.

I know, it's a bit of an odd one. I had originally planned to remove it but when I found the thermostat I decided to keep it on for the time being.

I'd keep it if it has the thermostat. Best possible setup to have.

Where I am in SA we hit high 40’s had a day or two of low 50’s, it’s brutal.
