You just need an active Key, and you program in an additional one.

Where a key [existing] will classed as a Master Key.
That's were it get a bit tricky I found, but still worked ok.
What if I haven't got a key at all

As you asked What If I haven't got a Key at all,
My only suggestion is to -
  1. Use a Mobile Locksmith,
  2. As mentioned, If you have the original Security Card that came with the car, you can get a Key ordered to Code, as a reputable Locksmith will be able to Supply & Cut the Key, and program it in to your Car, but he will need to Delete all the existing ones in there first.

If you take your rego papers to the stealer they can sell you a key. They will send the code to the locksmith and the locksmith will cut a key using the code. This is assuming the state you live in is like Tas where the only way a stealer will hand over the key cutting code is if you buy the blank off them.

That will cost you an Arm and a Leg, hence the name "Stealer"

On the other hand, If you have a mechanic mate/friend, they may be able to source it from you.
[for the cost of a small [liquid] token of appreciation ;) ]
