Hi all, im new to the forums, I have many questions regarding the VS berlina i own which i bought last thursday from Cranebrook NSW $1300 its done 232k on the clock and few days later the crank angle broke as well as the harmonic balancer......after the service i got them to check mi car to see if any other faults are there....they found that teh brake pads may need replacing soon, and the rocket cover has a minro leak......btw How much roughly does a rocket cover cost these days?...Btw this is my first holden i ever owned :).

    cheers

    Daora

The rocker cover shouldnt need replacing, just nip the bolts up a bit. Be careful because if you over do it they snap.

    Welcome to the forums.

It's rocker cover not rocket cover, best you learn now before you get given too much **** for it lol.

And if there is a leak I would go to your local parts store (not holden dealership because they steals your monies) and ask for two rocker cover gaskets ('cause you might as well do both, if ones leaking the other probably isn't far off) for a 95 VS V6. They are cheap, like less than $50 from memory and are what usually cause the leaks. You won't need to replace the covers unless there is a hole in them, if there is a hole (pretty unlikely) you can either get some spares from the wreckers or use silicone to block the hole.

You can't really just tighten the nuts up as they are the type that only go a certain amount then just stop, assuming they are the same as a VR V6, which they should be. You shouldn't snap them, just tighten a little then they'll just stop and you'll know they are in. Passenger side cover is easy to remove, drivers side is a bit of a pain to get off but be patient and you can remove a few things in the way. Maybe get a mate to help hold back stuff while you try wriggle it out lol.

What other questions do you have? :)

For the minor scratches you can use some Meguiar's ScratchX, and if you want to get rid of the dents you could find out about paintless dent removal. Otherise either live with them or go for a full on respray.

Go to the wreckers for a new lower steering column cover.

Are you going to fit the exhaust yourself or pay to have it done? If you're going to do it yourself then contact forum member Not_an_Abba_Fan and he'll probably say a 2.5" catback with resi. He has good prices and knows his stuff. But if you want it fitted it may be easier to just go to your local exhaust shops and see what they have. Maybe try get a Lukey, they are fairly common. Most people have Redbacks.

CAI won't increase engine lifespan, just fuel economy, throttle response, intake noise and power slightly.

    want suggestions?
    to bad your getting some.
    Clear side indicators
    Repaint those grill inserts..
    Debadge
    Remove mudflaps
    Colour coded door handles
    Replace your Bootlid lights
And get yourself some Calais taillights.
And maybe remove the trolley strips.. Unless you live in feral land where people slam there doors on yours cause they aint go no respect..

K&N filters are $100 and need oiling (recharge kits are $50), I've heard good storys about them.. But I like my lukey air filter and only cost me $40.. Does the same job as the K&N I think. Pod filters are only good if they are in a inclosed area; They'll suck in all the hot air..
Never experimented with sparkplug leads, I think replacing with genuine is good enough.
My front pads cost me $110 fitted, and rotors are valued around the $200 mark (not fitted)..
15's would be cheap.. I can get 17's for $260 for 2, So i'm sure you can get them cheaper than that..
I've got the 2.5" lukey catback exhaust and I love it..

    Just sayin'

If i added a hiflow cat and a extracters will that make it sound alot better and be better in peformance? For mi car do they use 6-1 headers?

So go a Lukey 2.5'" catback with rear resonator and a dual tip. You could get extractors, but they are going to be around the $1000 mark and won't give huge gains or make it sound 'better', just a bit different. Probably better spending your money on other things. And as for the cat, Not_An_Abba_Fan said something like high flow cats aren't needed as the standard ones flow enough for the V6. Cats are a couple of hundred and will make it louder. And no they don't use 6-1 headers lol.

For the intake you really have 2 main choices: MACE CAI which uses an enclosed pod, or a genuine supercharged 6 OTR intake and K&N panel filter. Genuine supercharged is a little cheaper, but a little harder to install.

Pretty much any decent leads should do the job well enough, stick with the main brands, and go something a little thicker than standard, as they are fairly thin. Some of the aftermarket ones have better grip parts to pull, conduct better and are insulated better. MSD are probs overkill though. Just something in between standard and them would be the go.

For rotors I recommend DBA Street Series slotted and ventilated discs, as they are good quality, look awesome, are better than standard and are fairly cheap. As for pads I hear the cop spec ones that forum member GSL Rallysport sell are really good, so check them out.

Tyres shouldn't be too expensive...unless you go Bridgestone or something, IMO they are always dear. Should be able to get some around the $120 each mark.

Lol only 'cause I've been through all of this with my car haha. And yeah, I have Bendix CTs atm, but next time I'm gonna try the cop spec pads I think. I hear the Bendix Ultimate are a bit overpriced and can be noisy and dusy as. As I said you could always ask GSL Rallysport for a run through and see what he recommends.
