VS II S-PAK Manual
lol mine was drinking 19.1L/100kms when i first got it, changed the O2 Sensors, full service and flushed the coolant and now drinking on average 12.64L/100kms which is bout 450-460kms for a full tank. im gonna try make it more effiecent by changing the thermostat and coolant temp sensor whenever i can be bothered

i found that the most common thing that effects fuel economy in a VS V6 is when the ecu is running in open loop mode

VS III V6 Ute - 5 spd manual
Depends who's driving - and where

If I'm driving to work (150 km round trip mostly on freeway) I can squeeze 600km+ out of a tank.

If the missus is driving locally, 400km is about it..

That's in a V6 Eco

I'm curious as to what this open loop mode is on a VS ecu. I've had bung fuel economy ever since we bought the car (practically from new) and i don't think we've ever got more than 400kms out of a tank! Just wondering if this could be it? The only other thing that i had to check/clean/change were injectors then i would have been stuck as to what could be causing my poor fuel economy. Could my ecu been on open loop and cause this sort of economy?

Cheers,
Boojakz.

Have the O2 sensors checked for normal operation.

All VS's have a dodgy wiring connection in the main wiring loom behind the passenger side cylinder head. You have to unwrap this portion of the loom and then find 2 small black wires which come together at a bare connector into a single wire. This connector has to be soldered solid to prevent electrical resistance at the joint.

Aside from that, the air filter needs to be clean, exhaust system in good condition (no blocked or partially collapsed mufflers), plugs good etc etc and it should have more normal fuel economy

heya guys, i get 550 - 600km (everday driving) per 63ltrs of fuel, vr v6 5spd,
before i converted to manual, i was getting about 400km per tank,,

on freeway i average 7-8ltr per 100km.

not bad for a car that has done 300,000km ey?

hehe

I just replaced my thermostat. ($12)

Getting an extra 100km out of my tank. So about 550km's in mixed driving.

Is that the coolent temp. sensor? I'm getting around 300km/tank, city/suburb driving, not being a lead foot either. Generally keeping it under 2,500rpm :bang:
