Picked this up recently for a v8 runabout. My first Holden, previously owned several Fords.... :hiding:
It's got 214,000 km but good service history and no mods except a catback. Needed strut top bushes and ball joints for roadworthy (dust boots had split), so I bit the bullet and bought new control arms complete with ball joints and bushes fitted ($220 delivered:spot on:), polyurethane radius rod bushes ($80) and new tie rod ends ($32) along with the new strut tops ($75) and fitted them over a weekend. Original GM/Monroe struts were still good so I left them alone, and it feels much better now.

I'll keep the mods mild cause it's just a daily... planning extractors + cats (the factory crushed cat pipes make me want to stab my eyes out), LS6 intake manifold swap, monaro cold air intake/two hole mod and a mafless tune with GTS intake pipe. Not so keen on the OTR intakes, cause cleaning filters is a pain...

Anyway, pics.

Looks very clean for the amount of Kms on it. Yeah a smooth pipe for the intake will be good with the two hole mod (took off my OTR, sold it, gutted the MAF and put the smooth 4 inch pipe with two hole mod on the factory air box and cant hardly feel any difference compared to the OTR - maybe slightly better throttle response from the OTR).OTR's might give 1/2 second better time on the 1/4 mile but you wont notice it much on the street...Cheers

Cheers, I've also thought about doing that to the poor old maf...

Did some data logging with the Torque Android app and my bluetooth OBD2 dongle - the manifold pressure drops from 96 kPa key on engine off to 89 at full throttle 6000 rpm. Definatly room for improvement there. 7% drop in pressure = roughly 7% drop in power, or 15 kw compared to a perfect intake.

Had an AUII XR8 auto for a few years before this, so here's a VT vs AU review!

SS Pros:
Goes much harder, and easy to get more power out of.
Seats and driving position better
Uses a bit less fuel and weighs less.
Parts cheaper and easier to get.
T56 manual is fun, if a little clunky at times.

XR8 Pros:
Sounds much better, proper v8 note. LS1 sounds a bit flat, but i'll reserve final judgement till it has extractors and better cat piping. The AU XR8s come with good 4-1 headers and cats from factory.
Nice slightly lumpy idle stock.
Better handling and steering feel.
Nice double wishbone IRS, good rear tire life.
Factory speakers sound much better.
