Hi there folks. A few months back I wrote off my VX Clubsport. Luckily both my mate and I walked away from it. All the running gear good so it's getting rebuilt. Thought I'd start a build thread. He it was right after the crash.
Cheers chunk. Though me and my mate walked, my 6 year old staffy bitch was killed. Onwards and upwards.. All the running gear has been stripped out. I brought another VX shell to start the rebuild with. Things are moving along. Here it is rolling today for the first time. Motor, front end, rear end installed. Body to be stripped out and clean before all the HSV stuff gets installed.
Don't know how we walked HSV08 but i learnt a lot from it. Was my fault. Showing off to my passenger if I'm honest. Lost control at around 200 on a open road (with no one on it thank god). The road was undulating, the rear end got air with traction control off. Wheels came down spinning, no chance of holding on to it. We hit a pole snapping it and landed on our lid. Anyway. Thought I'd share the rebuild with you fellas..
Very lucky mate. Atleast you can share your mistakes so hopefully will teach others. Will keep an eye on your thread. Judging from you user name was it an ls2 in the vx? Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
you recounting of it is scary enough, I can't even conceive of a crash at those speeds. glad to hear you came out on the right side (alive). I look forward to the build.
Will be good to see mate! is the rebuild gonna be a quick thing, or just and ongoing spare time thing ?
Cheers. The original LS1 needed rebuilding. My bro brought it from me. He rebuilt it for his jet boat. I brought a crate motor, LS2 but ditched the fly by wire for a cable operated Holley throttle body using an LS1 ECU. Had the knock sensors moved to accommodate the older ECU and away it went. It's got a maffless tune. Was running pretty good before I stacked it.
Cheers. The 380mm D2's are ok. Middle to lower range gear for aftermarket brakes these days I recon. But better than R8 or stock Clubsport brakes. The shell is fairly straight. A good base to start on.
So am I. To be fair, 200k didn't feel that fast at the time, till you hit a stationary object that is. I'll post up a couple of other pix of it to give you lot a better look at how well it coped in the crash.
Good question. As I lost my license till December relating to the stack, so there is no real rush getting it back on the road. But the guys that are doing most of the work are doing it at a fast rate. My flatmate (who was the passenger) is driving me around in my other vehicle right now(VX 80 Series Landcruiser). So he's keen on driving it once it's back on the road.
The chassis strengthening I had installed saved my mate in the passenger seat. He walked. This bar work ran both lengths of the car helping it from twisting when I gave it the beans. It was a kit I brought a few years back. If it wasn't there my mate wouldn't be here today. She saved our lives. I still get a chill looking at it. Yep, I believe in guardians looking out for us...when you time is up, it's up. Just wasn't that day. So think before you speed fellas. Wish I did.
Wow. What a mess. Glad you guys were ok though. Where did this happen as I just seen your from nz? Sent from my LT18i using Tapatalk 2
Same. Happened on Adams Rd, Westmelton, 30mins west of Chch. Was a dry night. Good conditions. I think I have a pic of the pole we hit. Well the replacement pole. But you can see my sideways skid makes up to it..
The road. Not made for 200+ speeds. I took this pic. That's my 15yr old boy walking on the road. Lets hope he learns from his dad. This is the new pole in place of the one we snapped a few weeks earlier. You can clearly see the marks my wheels left in the grass leading up to the pole.
To be honest I forget. But I'll let you know as I'm getting the same kit installed in the new shell. They are from Aussy I know that much.
its nice man seen the new pics man so lucky aye might look into getting some brakes like you have I like them do u got them on the back aswell
