G'day, Got a weird one for you. Backstory: My car broke down 3-4 weeks ago. I was driving home from work at 5pm on rainy day. I started to lose power. My accelerator input wasn't registering and I was forced to pullover immediately as the the car shuttered to a stop. Any ideas on what could cause this: The Problem: After +25mins (at random/intermittent) of driving. I will feel the car thud under my seat and at that point I know i'm on borrowed time. About 1 minute later. The car with begin to misfiring jolting back and forward and sit at about 40km/h until I find a safe spot to pull over. The engine light with constantly flicker in tandem with the rev counter jumping until i pullover. At that point the check engine light with remain solid. The car starts fine after the 'breakdown' and I am able to drive it until either I reach my destination or I 'breakdown' again. This has occurred 3 times in the last 3 weeks in which the car has spend 95% of the time at the dealership. Another video I managed to grab yesterday afternoon: The car had just stalled after idling for 2mins. Car is still warm after the 30-35min drive home from work. I believe what i'm listening to is the injectors still firing? Have been told by Holden the injectors firing here are to clear/clean the fuel out upon the engine suddenly cutting out. Timeline: Early March - Problem Appears - Car is towed to Holden Dealership. Front steering rods are bent by the towing company (yay). Late March - 75k Servicing Done, New Battery, CV Boot Leak fixed & Steering Rods fixed. Finally receive the car back. Car breaks down 25mins after leaving the dealership. Towed back to Dealership. 10th April - Receive the car back. Car is getting from A to B. But is noticeably sluggish and has a subtle rock when idling. Dealer was unable to replicate the issue over a weeks worth of testing and driving. 11th April - Misfiring Reoccurs again - Decision is made to car the elsewhere for diagnosis. I've decided to switch mechanics today, as the previous mechanic have been unable to replicate of diagnose any fault with the car. No faults codes apparently. Any thoughts/ideas/similar stories are greatly appropriated. Cheers, Mike
I get that about every 6mths from new. After having it looked at a few times and RACQ just resetting codes. I got a scanner from ebay and if it happens I just pull over and reset the codes and off I go waiting till next time. Drove into Dealer sounded like a 4cyl turn off they go and scan no fault. That`s when I got the scanner. So in 5yrs nothing has been replaced.
Had same few times in my my10. Always when o left hand corner. Turn off and re start all good. Hadn't done it for 6 months now. They really loose power and sound like a 3 cylinder.
Cheers for the responses. Having the ECM replaced today. The Holden dealership is having troubles communicating with it and it responding at all. Given the nature of the eventual yet intermittent-ness of the fault. It seems likely it could be the problem. I'll have more for you in the next couple of days. Here's hoping this is the end of it. Yeap. Had the factory OEM battery in it until this fault occurred. Has now been replaced as part of the fault finding effort.
Safe to say all sorted! Turned out to be a faulty ECM. Has running normally without a hitch since the replacement just over two months ago. Thanks guys.
