MY17 Specs and Release Date

It is a miserable day in Melbourne 3rspec3. Driving a manual Redline in the wet should brighten it up.

 

Goodness me! Looks like the end of May is going to be VERY busy for the dealers. I dropped off some forms and had a chat to my dealer last night and my Redline was apparently going to leave the factory on 16 May, delivery date of 22 May. He had a VIN allocated, which gave me butterflies in the stomach. Now to get all the insurances, Opti-coat, tinting etc. organised so I can get everything ready for a weekend cruise.... just need the trusty old Astra to keep going for one more month. I sure as hell hope they are going to be able to stick to the date. Earlier would be nice.

Additionally, the dealer has confirmed the build photos can be obtained but they are still working out the proper process. Red centre caps have also been ordered, so hopefully will look awesome on the Slipstream Blue, to match the red Brembo's.

This has to be the slowest feeling few months of my life!

 

Yes, Redline. If my delivery to dealer is Tuesday 23rd May then my build date should be Friday 21st May (according to your delivery date and build date.) I will most likely collect 2 days later, maybe 25th May. So my VIN will be dated earlier then yours? I realise you have an MSE and I have a Redline, but the build number is sequential and would be a lower number than yours. I did see somewhere a breakdown of the VIN when I was searching the SS Forums website. I have to find it again, unless anyone knows of a website or formula of the VIN for all Commodores - that's a big ask!

 

Commodore VINs aren't too hard to decode. For example, my VE:

6G1EK55H67L123456

6 - Australia
G1 - GM
E - VE (or F on VFs)
K - Trim level. K is Omega/Evoke/SV6/SS, P is SSV/Redline, X is Calais
5 - body style. 5 is sedan, not sure what others are.
5 - safety equipment level. This might have changed to a letter on later cars - I think my Dad's MY11 Calais has an E here.
H - engine. In this case H is L98 V8. Not sure what the others are.
6 - check digit. This is calculated from a formula as is intended to prove it's not a fake VIN (don't ask me how)
7 - model year. In theis case, MY07. From 2010 onwards they're letters. MY17 would be H.
L - Elizabeth plant
123456 - sequence number.

That's largely based on VE info but I don't think VF is any different, and our Cruze (also built in the same plant) follows the same pattern. I'm also informed all MY17 cars have sequence numbers beginning with 3.

So if I was to guess, an MY17 Redline should be 6G1FP5ExxHL3xxxxx

 

Redline code is E, my vin is 6G1FE5EW1HLxxxxxx

 

That is correct and also wrong, as the 3XXXXX number started late last year on Chevy SS builds.

 

Breakdown of VIN as follows:

6G1FJ5E3HL123456

1 - Geographical Area
2 - Country
3 - Manufacture code (1 is Holden, 3 is Chevrolet)
4 - Car line
5 - Series
6 - Body Style
7 - Restraint code
8 - Engine type code (W is 6.2lt)
9 - Check Digit
10 - Model Year (H for MY17)
11 - Manufacturing plant code
12 - 17 Sequential Serial Number

All MY17's started with 3XXXXX. They started September last year but the majority builds were in December for the US. Position 10 determines which MY year it is.

SSV and SSV redline have the same series code(E - J used above is Calais V). The redline is determined in the model code VFHJ8EP69R48

 

Are sales of Redlines slowing down now? When I first started looking for mine a couple of months ago they seemed to be priced in the low $60k and were moving pretty quickly. Now just for the sake of it I've checked a few dealers who I did look out a while ago and I noticed that one dealer still has his Red Hot Manual and Auto for sale but he is now advertising the manual for $59.6 drive away and the auto with black roof is $61.2 drive away.

In other news, just dropped by my dealer to make absolutely sure I still wanted Slipstream Blue, as they had Spitfire and Light My Fire side by side in the showroom. Tempted to change to Spitfire but I think it would just be a bit too much, and I love how metallic colours change as the light hits them (which Spitfire isn't). I now have an expected build date of third week August. Waiting, waiting, waiting...

For those in the know: would the third week of August be the week starting the 14th, or the week starting the 21st? 31 July is a Monday this year so wondering if that counts as last week of July or first week of August...

 

I've been wondering the same. My dealer has had a manual Light My Fire sedan sitting around for a couple of months now. On the other hand their Spitfire wagon was only there a few days before being sold.

 

I Thought all the V8's especially Redlines were snapped up? I know there is a Spitfire sedan at Brighton Holden. Built January still there. Manual.

 

I mentioned a few pages back that Ralph D'Silva Holden has a LMF Redline in the showroom that's been in the showroom since approx early feb. Drove past today and its still there.

They quoted my $63k for redline manual no options. No wonder its still unsold.

 

another NSW dealer I checked out a few months ago is now advertising a new MY16 Red Hot auto for $54,888 and a Black My16 auto demo with 10km on the clock for the same price.

they also have a demo MY16 SSV white manual with 10km on it for $45888.

 

yep, doesnt seem they are too willing to sell cars, not only are their prices a rip off, but their attitude is also crap.

 

Can anyone confirm that the My17 Calais-V's interior is full black now just like the SS-V so no more full beige titanium and semi black and titanium trims.

 

Correct it is an all black interior with the exception of the plastic inserts which we discussed a few days back as still being light grey, and the vent surrounds being silver (same as on the Redline).

 

Hey guys
Just wondering and following on from the VIN number thing, at what point is the engine number assigned to the car? (My guess is when the engine meets the body on the production line)

The dealer is saying he / we are now waiting on the engine number to be assigned- expected build date is for June

And what is the breakdown of the 'model code' For a my17 redline ?

 

Picked up my MY17 Redline sedan today.
Mods since ownership. Silver vision indicator globes, red wheel center caps and fuse pulled for the exhaust valves.
