Jack vehicle up and support with jack stands. Isolate electrics.
Drain differential oil into suitable container.
Remove differential housing end cover.
Loosen crownwheel/bevel gear bolts. Note LH thread.
Remove wheels.
Disassemble drum brake assemblies. Place all parts into a small container so you don't loose anything. Take photos of assembly as well.
Remove axle shafts. Take note of LH and RH sides. Don't mix them up.
Mark the differential carrier caps LH and RH respectively (centre punch marks).
Loosen differential carrier cap bolts and remove caps, bolts and shims. Place in plastic bag correctly in relation to each side. Do not mix them up!
Carefully remove the differential carrier and bearing cups. Beware of pinch points and weight of object.
Count the splines of an axle shaft in relation to the splines on the new LSD centre.
Remove crownwheel off old centre and install onto new centre. Loctite must be used and bolts torqued to specification.

Installation is the reverse procedure.

Have you got a service manual for your VL? If not I can gain access to bolt specifications and procedures for you.

Penrite Pro Gear 80W-140 fully synthetic gear oil with Limslip additive. I'd buy two 2.5L bottles. If you can't purchase the Limslip additive, that's fine but I'd highly recommend it as well as numerous differential overhaul shops.

Viscosity: 80W-140

Base Oil:
Full Synthetic

Used in the following applications:
Hypoid & Limited Slip Differentials

Can be used where the following SAE viscosities are recommended:
SAE 140
75W-140
85W-140

Replaces SIN Gear 80

Pro Gear 80W-140 is a premium full synthetic, SAE 80W-140, API GL-5/GL-6/MT-1, heavy duty gear oil that uses a special combination of synthetic base oils which include PAO and Ester, with an advanced additive system to provide performance and protection under severe service.
It can also be used in applications requiring an SAE 85W-140, 75W-140 or SAE 140 gear oil.
Designed for use in differentials, both hypoid and limited slip, of competition vehicles and many makes of cars, light commercials, 4WDs and trucks.

Customer Benefits:
Ultimate protection
Race proven performance
Longer drain intervals
Superior protection against scoring & spalling wear
Compatibility with copper alloy components
Minimises chatter
Minimises inventory
