VE SS
Hi guys,

I recently bought a VE SS with major mods done by Walkinshaw (518fwkw and 387rwkw)

With the exhaust it has
* HSV headers
* No cats
* Twin 3 inch cat back mild steel exhaust with small body muffler.
* also has rear mufflers

It sounds ok but i want it to sound more beefy, like an old school V8 (That deep "beat" noise)

Should I go with straight pipes or j-pipes to replace the rear mufflers? To get it sounding like an old V8. It's lumpy now but I know I can get it angierer lol

I have been recommended to first install 200 cell hi flow cats to stop the petrol smell (which I love but cops hate lol)

Any help is appreciated as I'm a novice and dont want to get ripped off.

Thanks guys.

Also sometimes there is an rattle from the exhaust, sounds like it's at the back of the car. Is it a case of loose nuts or something more sinister?

Having no cats is illegal, I would put 2 of them on & then replace the centre muffler with a H pipe. Deleting the rear mufflers will just make it drone.

Thank you brother. I found some stainless steel 200 cell cats on eBay which I will be buying asap.

So put the H pipe and leave the rear mufflers?

Up to you, everyone here will tell you something different. There is no right or wrong answer comes down to personal preference. In my experience removing the rear mufflers sounds awful.

Appreciate your feedback. I know it's hard to explain as I am a noob to modding, just want it to sound like an old school muscle car.

I will definately put the cats on and the H pipe and I guess I'll take it from there.

Thanks again.

True, it's not a case I want it louder, I just want it more grunty, angrier and highlight that "beat" noise form the old school muscle.

I live in Sydney, can you recommend where I can get the cats and H pipe installed without getting ripped off?

Some 4 into 1 long tube headers (pacemakers) will help a lot with that deeper old school rumble
