Hey all, I took a look at this VZ yesterday, Overall it drives excellent, oil was very dark (not black) in colour, coolant was down to the last two little holes. I could only see three things wrong with it, bumper bar was bring re-sprayed but as you can see photos from before show that the damage was only scratches and a few tiny things inside. Thing is could the lack of servicing like this (no log book) cause any long term issues or something that? Would I actually pick up on when I drive or see the car? Bottom line is I dont know if i should buy it or not or what to look for in this case, what to look at on a vz to make sure it's okay (other then the obvious things like oil etc), Basically i'm in desperate need of any help here as i've done the deal which is trade my vx for $4000 and then pay $6000 for that car. Straight away it needs a Service, 4x New Tyers that i can see. Car is smooth on the road, changes gears in time, excellent around corners and very silent, more like a zoom sound then a rev sound like on my VX. What do you all think ?
I reckon do it. The only thing I would be concerned with is the logbook. Not having a full logbook of service history and so on, can depreciate the resale value of the car a bit later on as people won't pay top dollar for a car they don't know the history of. If it needs a service straight away and also needs 4 new tyres, that's not the best sign in the world though, I reckon you could beat them back $1k for that. Reason I say that is a mate of mine was a car dealer for many a years, says that when a car comes in (is traded in and they take ownership of it) they immediately add 20% markup to the price of that car and that figure becomes their absolute base for the car. EG if I sold a car to a dealer for $10,000, they'd ramp it up to $12,000 as their cost price. Then they'd give it a sale price from there. So when you haggle with a car yard and beat them down to the baseline, they still make 20% on what it was traded in at originally. If you can beat em down to that baseline, then you'll prolly find there is another $1k to pull out of it Good luck mate.
Hey thanks for that i will take another look at it now, i guess we see. I am buying it privately though not from a dealer will write back as to what happened.
Personally, I wouldn't touch a car without a full log book service history and would get it inspected by a motoring organisation to be sure(RAA, RACV, etc). When I bought my SV6 I made passing the inspection part of the contract. If anything was wrong, the dealer was to fix it before I took delivery at the agreed price.
Hey all, I ended up buying the car, turns out their was almost zero coolant in the car which hasn't dont any damage as of yet because i got it in time, overall it's not perfect but for the price i paid ended up being fairly good. I'll post some pics :-D
the link no longer works. What type of vz was it. Did you end up bringing the price down or not. I'd recommend fully flushing the coolant, doing a few frequent oil changes and check all other fluids. Having both a VX and VZ I'd say it was worth the upgrade.
I got the price down a tiny bit but he ended up taking my car off my hands which was a bit beaten up. I have it booked in for this friday for a major service "eek"
Well i dont know what service needs to be done as it's currently @ 108,000km so i assume 110?, but I have no clue when it's last service was, the guy said 6 month but trust me on this one, that wasn't serviced 6 months ago or anything near it.
haha hmm, if they are quoting you as 6 months ago and theres no paperwork or anything they are lying to you and you can have their balls for that Tell em pics or it didn't happen .... But the 110,000km service is a big one. Brake pads, spark plugs, coolant, oil, tyre rotation, brake fluid/power steering fluid (?) etc? Probably want to budget a bit for it in case they do find anything out of the ordinary, say, anything in the ball park of about $600? hehe. If brake discs are a little warped they will usually have them machined at the same time too... Can anyone confirm or correct some of the service features there? I am sure there are a fair few more things aswel ?
I didn't buy it from a dealer :-( but privately. Eek i have $1500 to spend MAX on this service so if you think it will cost around that i'll keep an eye out on how much they are going to charge me. Thanks heaps for the info, i'll let you know what happening. What about the fuel filter too? haha this friday will be rather interesting :-D
