Hi lads,

This saturday coming up I will be getting my first car, it is a VT executive series 2. Basically, I have very little knowledge of car sound systems, how they work or the sizes. I listen to mainly thrash & death metal along with alot of psychadelic and old school rock. I am after a sound system which will produce superior sound quality and can provide a good mix. I've heard a few of my mates stereos and often they sound poorly mixed, with the subwoofer often being too dominant over the other speakers. What are the stock size speakers in the doors? I'm interested in spending a fair bit on this so I would love it if you guys could give me reliable and great sounding brands of speakers/subs/amps. I would like to have alot of speakers set up in the car so it isn't just the front speakers and the sub. what else can I do and where can they be placed? If you have any tips that would be great.
thanks
ben

Why do you want more speakers? A front set and sub(s), is generally the best setup to get quality.

Ah okay, I wasn't sure. I figured the more speakers, the better.

Would any of you guys know what brand the screen this guy has is?
I would really like to get something similiar as the head unit.
(it's a picture i found awhile ago and kept, can't find the carsales ad anymore to find out what brand it is)

The best way to get quality sound is to get a really good set of front speakers, and unplug all the other ones. Spend as much money as you can on the front door speakers.

There is no 'best sounding' speaker out there, there are 'best sounding to your ear' speakers though. I suggest you hike yourself down to your nearest car audio specialist store and listen to whats on the sound wall. I don't mean places like JB or WOW Sight and Sound, I mean car audio stores.

The screen looks like a Clarion to me, just going by the large silver square buttons you'll see on some of their other units. But what does it matter, it's a double DIN touch screen. If that's what your after then basically and double DIN unit will replace the factory one. Find a unit that you like the look of, and one that has the features that your after. I suggest spending as much time as you can playing around with each head unit, remember that something that seems fiddly on a display board, might be even more difficult to operate while driving. Some units are just weirdly designed.

If we knew your location it might help we may be able to reccomend some stores that might be worth visiting.

Completely Off Topic here, But good to see your back HCVP. Im sure many have missed your absence and lack of qualified posts in the Car audio section since you have been away :D (I assume the cyclone... )

VZ Executive
Hi mates, sorry to butt in but I've got a similar situation here. I decided to replace my 2 front speakers in my VZ with aftermarket ones, after the stock on the passenger side blew. I've heard here on the forum that the stock headunit produces 17 watts, however my new speakers have an RMS of 30 and a peak of 210 watts. The sound from them is a bit "inferior" and "tinny" as compared to the stocks in the rear doors. Am I missing something? Is there something else I need to install to improve the sound quality?

Thankyou mate, much appreciated. I am located in melbourne. Was thinking of checking out strathfield, and a few other shops online. Ive been to repco, jb hifi etc.. however they have a very limited range.
