Being within their rights is one thing, but deciding where and when to use those is another. If you're going to uphold the rules, uphold them for everybody, not just when you feel like it.

Self Righteous little so and so. A very senior manager from head office got involved in my incident and despite me technically being a "thief" as repeated ad nauseam by the manager, I kept my job.

I had some advice from a lot of people, all saying it's absolute bullshit and if KFC were to fire me, I had some very very good grounds for appeal.

Things aren't nearly as clear cut as you make them out to be Sgt.

Send him down to your local Bunnings with a resume' and speak to the Front End manager at the store, i had a job at KFC before i started at Bunnings, quit before they could train me, never even met the other staff, Had better pay rate at Bunnings, no Stupid hours (late finishes etc) the only downside was working weekends, but you get over that pretty quickly when you have extra coin in your pocket.

I spent 4.5 years at Bunnings, all through high school, and just out of high school, the hours were good, i went from registers to on the floor dealing directly with customers, from casual to permanant part time, they are relatively flexible, and the work is easy, especially if you get onto the Front end (registers) the hardest thing on there is trolley collection in the carpark, and unless the carpark is a mountain range, thats a piece of piss. Over christmas holidays, and school holidays they are generally pretty eager to throw you on for some extra shifts, i worked 50 hour weeks at one stage, casual, and raked in the dough.

Bunnings hire are a relatively low age and pay well, i was earning more than any of my mates at fast food outlets, and the latest i ever finished was 9.15pm on a weeknight, and that was only thursdays.

Ive seen my sisters grow up going through job after job, macca's and the rest, and they have nothing good to say about them at all.

Yeah few my mates worked there, seemed alreight.

KFC the hours you can finish at are around the 11 WEEKNIGHTS, so bl if he has school.

If he doesn't work weeknights he'll be put onto weekends which make you wish you didn't work at KF lol.

hey i work there its my 1st job when i started at 15 i was getting $6.48 per hour for 6 months *training*(pfft learnt it all in 2 months easily) anyway once off that was like $7.23 then i turned 16 and have had slight pay rises now i get $9.59 per hr, and i am now a FSL which is a food service leader, it means i have a head over the food service team members, like a footy team im the leaders the others are team members, i get a different uniform but same pay and i have a higher rank then most people there, ive also learnt how to serve and i can now perform in the kitchen and out the front pretty confidently.

funny you say they get fired over taking food, the owners of our franchise have a son who manages our store, and as long as we use the proper precsdures to handle food (gloves tongs and scoops) we can take almost whatever we want, we get cheap drinks, usually just given out, but a dinner roll or nuggest would be nothing, mabey if you took heaps of chicken or a bbq chicken they would say stop but not fire you lol thats stupid.

First job at 14 was red rooster...something like $5.75 an hour me and my mate worked there. We left after a year when we were on 7 dollars something, I went to coles, he went to maccas...today im earning $17 an hour at coles and hes on something like $15 an hour I think... either way if he got the job or not, get him to apply for a supermarket or maccas, heaps better pay, and better recognised companies to have on a resume I reckon...

Stealing is wrong, regardless of whether others are doing it also. This is why there are issues with looting at certain times. People who would not normally steal as it is ethically and legally wrong, all of a sudden are able to because others are committing the same offence, allowing them to morally disengage and consider it within their ethical boundaries. Its a nice excuse, but thats all it is: an excuse. Sooner or later, somebody will cop the consequences when an example has to be made to correct the behaviour. In every one of your examples, staff members who had been caught out had to either pay or they would be fired. That just shows that unless an example is made people will continue to flout the rules as they know that they can get away with it, at worst they will simply have to pay for the item they are stealing (therefore, there is no risk in the attempted theft as worst case you just pay for it anyway). Despite the consequences and warnings given to previous staff members, others should have learnt from those experiences and known that stealing was not to be tolerated by that manager. At what point is enough, enough?

I fail to understand why people are stupid enough to risk their employment over a dinner roll, a large chips, or a drink upsize? Gee save a dollar, but next time get caught and lose a hundreds of dollars in lost wages between jobs. How about everyone just pays for what they consume rather than being a theif, the likes of which cost us millions of dollars a year.

The only reason more people do not lose their jobs from these actions, is due to HR bull****. We had an employee stealing cigarettes at work. Only person behind the counter and they would be counted before and after that persons shift and we were short of the cigarettes that employee smokes on that persons shift, 6 times in 2 weeks. Yet HR would not fire that person without video evidence. They were called in, spoken to without being actively blamed, and guess what? They stopped going missing.

I used to work at kfc when i was 15, i got between 7 and 8 bucks an hour, but, i must admit to eating alot of food without paying, but i had a cool manager and he didnt care the pay was s**t so i figured i deserved a bit more... although, these jobs do look good in a resume if you hold it for a year or so.

i worked at maccas for nearly 3 years, didnt earn fantastic money, but better than my KFC mates, as far as i know they're on a flat rate? (when i worked at maccas we got all wage benefits, double time etc, i dont think they do it anymore)
i ended up doing a retail management certificate for 2 of the 3 years, signing a contract to GUARANTEED hours. so stable pay ;)

and i got a certificate that will be a big help if i look for a management job one day in the future

no Bunnings near here, so all the younger guys trying to make some coin pretty much are limited to fast food, or a supermarket.
would you believe better hours at maccas than coles? :(

Wow im glad i never worked with fast food when i was young. When i was 15 i was lucky to score a job temping at a bank.. pay was somewhere around 18-19 an hour as they had no underage pay rate, only problem was the work was during week days so I was confined to school holidays and even then it was only a couple weeks here and there.

Later on I did some **** jobs, **** kicker labourer for a while.. people we were contracted to didnt give a **** about OH&S, had us working 12 hr shifts with no break, alot of heavy lifting with no training or assistance etc. After that worked at dse/tandys but got sick of the general abuse from customers that seems to go hand in hand with retail jobs.

Now I have a real job... so I can look forward to spending the rest of my days in a cube farm.
