holden commodore s series 2
Hi, my mate just got his car serviced recently and was wondering what parts need to be replaced asap and what are the most important to repair to the least.

- HOLDEN VY S SERIES 2 2004 MODEL -

I got the car serviced at holden, so obviously their prices they quoted me are going to be high but of course genuine holden parts, professionally done.

Though is their anywhere in sydney i can get this done cheaper? and anywhere i can buy genuine holden parts for a cheaper price???

Any recommendations on a mechanic in the sydney area?

- rear brakes $ 3XX (to replace)
- ns wheel bearing noisy $ 350.00 (to replace)
- rear cv shavs noisy lh and rh parts $ 1100.00, $ 302.00 labour
- ns steering rack cover $ 171.00 (to do)
- radio antenna bent $ 345.00 (to replace)
- sway bar links warn $ 260.00 (to do)

Thanks.

BWAHAHAHAHA, those prices are funny as heck.

Rear brakes are $39 for new rotors each, plus $50-$80 for some good pads. Hit up GSLRallySport a sponsor here for them, easy as hell job to do.
Radio antenna, $120 or so for a new genuine one, takes about 1-2 hours to do for the first time.
Sway bar link pins, about $50 for nolathane replacements, easy as piss to do.

Never done the others myself before, but CV shafts, Holden Commodore VT,VX,VY IRS CV Joint Drive Shaft (eBay item 380320245240 end time 29-Mar-11 15:55:58 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats. If Holden apprentices can do it in 2.5-3 hours (Its $120/h now isn't it) than a monkey can probably do it in less.
Depends on which wheel bearing as to the price.
Don't know what they mean by steering rack cover, maybe the boots? If so than its about $20 for new boots. I think it will need a wheel alignment after though, not sure?

Out of curiosity why are you still going to Holden for servicing? Still under warranty or something?

Honestly get yourself a Gregory's manual or something, will save a heap of cash. If you don't at least attempt the first three than I'm sorry you will have to hand in you Manly Man Card.

- rear brakes $ 3XX (to replace) Should be around $200 with Bendix pads. Rotors may need machine/ replace so that could be about right
- ns wheel bearing noisy $ 350.00 (to replace) About right
- rear cv shavs noisy lh and rh parts $ 1100.00, $ 302.00 labour 30 mins labour ($50) $250 each for reco CV shafts.
- ns steering rack cover $ 171.00 (to do) Rack boots are $50 labour and $50 parts
- radio antenna bent $ 345.00 (to replace) Aerial (power) costs $125 new and 30 mins labour ($50)
- sway bar links warn $ 260.00 (to do) Sway bar links should be replaced with Nolathane ($65) and take around 30 mins again ($50)

Any mechanic can do these jobs as they are standard unspecialised procedures. An apprentice will whip em up no worries

Thanks.

You can save even a bit more with the antenna if the motor is ok just by buying replacing the mast. $70 for a genuine mast at holmart.com.au
