No on ever talks about there break fluid... What I want to know is I haven't had my break fluid changed in lets say since 160,000 and im nearly 220,000 - should i be thinking about flushing this with new fluid by now or is it even necessarily to be flushed? It was topped up once mid 190,000km but for only a little amount.
Yes all ways change the break fluid i do mine every second service so 40000. The fluid is hydroscopic and will absorb water into the system causing rust inside the break lines. Also braking will be dramatically effected.
Mine has gone a yuk colour an its new. same with my father inlaws car he did his an it also went a brown yuk colour in a madder of weeks
err well, that's bad then lmao. Arh crap okay soo is it easy to change myself + bleed lines myself and how much break fluid should I be buying and which DOT (i think it was 3) is it i don't remember off the top of my head, btw I cannot seem to find any -good- how to's on here in break fluid changes so if anyone knows of one that would be great.
Holden service book says to change fluid every 2 years, my VX SS has been dealer serviced from new (still only done 55,000km) and I have had it done every 2 years as per the book and the fluid is spotless.
yeah, change it. It is probably Dot 4, as commodores started using dot 4 from VS. Check your owners handbook and it will tell you. The cap on the reservoir might have it written on too. And just my opinion , but get a blue fluid like valvoline performance dot 4 so when you bleed it through you can see when the colour changes you have got it all out.
This is probably just due to the new brake fluid being a differentcolour to the old and the old fluid is not fully remoed, nothing to worry about. Thats if the colour is an ugly yellow if it is really brown maybe be signs of rust.
Oh also regarding which DOT to use if not sure use DOT 4 as you can use DOT 4 when it says DOT3 but you can only use DOT 3 on DOT 3 systems... hope this makes sense to you :S sorry lol
