Asking on behalf of a mate, can the battery in the remote be replaced (have a feeling it can, but Holden say otherwise)?
Idea's on who can do this and a price would also be appreciated.

Can be replaced, but they are a sealed unit. Once open they never quite go back together the same way.

go to mr minit and ask them for the key fob and coding, i assume the blade is still in good nick? if it is, just getting the key fob should only cost you between $50-$70 and then your good as new

better off buying off ebay and then taking to holden for calibrations, mr minit can make more problems then its worth,

if you get it off ebay you can then have a choice of holden, chev, hsv and pontiac logos on the back haha

their not supposed to be replaced, you need to keep constant power to the key fob. A dead battery still holds enough charge to keep the coding in memory, remove it though and there goes your coding. As mentioned best off just biting the dust and Mr Minit, Ebay or dare I say it, holden, and just buy the key fob and switch over the key blade.

it should be but that would be for the fob and not the key blade. They'll just use your current key blade.

    Very true.

As the battery is soldered into the key the only way to change it is if you have the tools and skills needed (IE: a soldering iron and a s**tload of patience)

If you can solder than its easily done as the chip that is programmed in the key is "flashed" (wont lose the memory)

1: All you have to do is undo the two screws holding the key itself in and remove it.
2: Pry open the plastic head (this can be very tricky and force is needed)
3: De-solder the battery and replace it soldering the new battery in.
4: Get some good sealing glue and seal around the plastic head on both sides.
5: Clamp it together or cover it with something heavy until the glue dries.
6: Once the glues dry screw the key itself back into the plastic head.

    Good Points...
Doing this will save you $80-$100 and is easy enough to do.

    Bad Points...
If not sealed right you will lose water resistence and will have to open and seal again if it gets water inside.

    Tips...
Make sure the metal "pin" that connects to the ignition (negative) is contacting the ignition. (if this is not the case you will not be able to start the car)

    hope this helps you:)
