While installing a new sound system in my car i noticed that my fuel pump is constantly making a humming / buzzing noise like they usually do when you first start your car, only this doesn't stop, its always doing it, i have never realised this before until i had my rear seats out. sometimes when i start the car it seems like there is fuel rushing or bubbling in the tank.

am i up for a new fuel pump?

do i just get a replacement fuel pump or a high performance pump?

are they easy to change over?

Cheers

Thats normal, means that your fuel pump is working ok. You'll hear it more when your tank is full.

That humming / buzzing noise is ment to be there????

a few of my mates have VS commies and theirs makes a noise for the first few seconds after you start the car then it stops making noise.

Also on hot days in summer it seems when i start my car that its starved for fuel, my old man said it sounds like vapour lock or something, could this be my fuel pump is on its way out also?

They're not too hard to change over BUT....make sure you have a nearly empty tank when you do it or have a really big drum and an easy to use pump.

It sucks pumping 60+ litres of fuel out of the tank to change the thing !!!

yeah that annoying humming sound can be from a few things.....

*fuel pump on its way out
*condensation in the fuel lines
*strainer blocked....

I had a hummin pump in our VS for about a year... it lasted well.... but the humming got the best of me and I had to change it...:bang:

Do yourself a favour and get yourself a original pump ie. Delphi. Ive bought a cheapie USA made and it stuffed up in 12months.... Clean you tank out while your there and most importantly changed fuel filter....

and as VS 5.0 has pointed out do it when the fuel gauge is on "E...

I just change a pump on the weekend and had to drain 20L out of the tank...
