Hey all was considering gettin my vr resprayed, can anyone give an indication on how much it would cost and if anyone knows a good place to take it to around the western/inner suburbs of sydney?
When I went to a panel beaters for a general quote after my hail damage, it was roughly $300 per panel, original colour. But I'm in Tas, so thats about all I can do mate.
i think its more the prep work that depends on the cost if the body is perfect and you just want a same colour closed door respray it wont cost as much as mine will..... bloody little dings and crap in the door's im too scared to get a quote
Im going to get a respray as soon as i fit my supercharger due to a vx bodykit. Has any one fully prepped there car then taken it into the sprayers just to paint. Im curious as to a price also?
umm yea prob just the same maybe with a tinge of something, the body isnt too bad one small dint and a couple of small scratches but nothing major, also is it possible to do my side mirrors and door handles myself? what kinda paint should i use?
The problem with doing your own prep work is that most spray painters won't touch it because they cannot guarantee the work and if the final product looks crappy then you are not going to be happy and will blame the painter and they will blame your prep work so it is not really worth the trouble for them. If you can find a place that will just spray the car you are probably still looking at around $1200 minimum for a closed door respray in the same colour as your car is now.
For a same color respray from a reputable place you are looking at around $3000 - $4000 at a minimum for a closed door respray which includes prep. Im not sure on the best way to paint your mirrors or door handles so I will leave that to someone else to answer.
Hmm 1200 is awesome i was thinkin around 2k mark, i still would love to do it myself, after reading some guides i think itd be a awesome experience, might have a go...do the misses nova first lol.
Thats $1200 minimum and the quality of the finish will probably be fairly average for that kind of money. Remember that you get what you pay for when it comes to resprays.
Yeah im racking my brain trying to think of people i know who are spray painters who can do it on the cheap, still i would like a shot at doing it myself least that way i could spend days trying to fix imperfections. I really want a metallic black or a dark black cherry. I hate the green colour of my vp and the weathering discolouring as an eyesore. I just bought 3 tins of cutting polish a orbital polisher and 2 tins of wax that weird named wax. VN luke is a pretty handy with paint so i read and saw in pics lets all just send cars to him lol. Serious id love to know if you have some tips luke.
if you want to paint your car the last thing you should be doing is using wax products and things containing silicone as it causes the paint to react and bubble. For mirrors use 800 grit wet if metallic, solids are 600 grit wet. If any chips filly in with 2pac fine filler, and if go you back to plastic in any place prime it other wise it can react to thinners in the paint and bubble. I used protec paint and clear on my car and came up pretty resonable. Heres a picture of the bumper i just did
Oh i didnt mean i had the wax stuff was for sanding it was for a cut n polish to see if i could restore her old paint, it looks like itl work nicely but ive seen it come back 3 weeks later. Hence looking at a economical way to spray this bitch.
im currently undergoing the project of having my car sprayed (Project on hold atm however as a few other problems popped up) How it works is my sprayer is a mate, I am prepping the car and he is clearing each panel as I go, I do exactly as he says, then I show him the work, he says what else I need to do or if I am allowed to move onto the next panel. One panel at a time, painfully and slowly the car is being prepped, when I am done he will, final inspection and clean/tack rag, tape/mask/cover etc etc, spray and then afterwards he has also offered to do the cutting and polishing. Top bloke aye? We did a solvent test to determine the paint type, this involved getting some acrylic specific thinners, wetting a rag and holding it on a spot for a few moment, getting a clean rag and wiping off, the clear came away so my paint is acrylic so far my directions include. Use the thinners wax on wax off style like the karate kid ont he current panel to remove all clear, use a sanding block only and avoid holding the sand paper in hand at all costs. rub back with 400 wet and dry using a bucket of water with dish washing liquid in it, once the panel is dull give a quick wipe down with a rag wetted with K&H wax and grease remover, go over any parts again that are still shiny. I was advised to try to sand in only one direction, once the panel is dull find any chips/dents etc, repair them, small chips are to be sprayed with primer even if it is not through to metal, sanded with 400 untill smooth, filled with single pack stop putty, sanded with 400 untill smooth, sprayed again with primer and sanded again blah blah. Once the panel is perfectly sanded and filled blah blah for the 400 wet and dry I am to go over it with 1000-1200 wet and dry and present it for inspection. Complete so far, front drivers side fender (As I said project is on hold)
My VR cost $3750 for a full closed door respray including fitting and painting the SS kit in the factory colour.
Hmm its so dear isnt it, i was at a mates house who is a mechanic i asked him if he knew any painters who'd do it cheap. So he rang a mate and he wanted 4000 if i prepped it myself, (f#ck that i thought) but he only uses BMW paint (whatever the hell that is, german brand) but he put us onto a guy who will do it. This guy is willing to do it for 2500 if i prep it and he will do it if i miss spots or not to his approval. Both guys are professional sprayers in shops. The first guy said the paint he buys is like 4 times the price of normal paint. *Dunno how much of it is true* But god i wish i followed up on my spray painting as a kid lol.
