Hi, I did a search through some of the old posts, but couldn't find the answers I'm really after.
In short, brought a Vy II Maloo (yay). I did a quote through AAMI, and their happy to slug me $2700 per annum, fully comprehensive.
    My questions are -
    Is that reasonable ?
    Are there better insurers ?
Is there somewhere that would look at a discount if I insured the VE and the Maloo?

I'm looking for whether I'm on the right track, or should I be spending the money elsewhere?

There's lots of factors that determine insurance premiums eg. age, postcode, history and many others. We don't know all these details so it's hard to say if what you've been quoted is fair or not. Your best bet is to ring around heaps of insurers and get their prices.

Just Car are worth a try. AAMI are usually the cheaper of the large insurance companies though so GL

Almost describes me :) But I pay $600/year Fully Comp. for my VY SII SuperCharged Calais through Suncorp. Your quote seems a little high to me - but I imagine it varies between states? As with all things, don't sign anything till you have at least 3 quotes - and always ask "is there anything I can do to bring the price down?" - ie, fit alarm, garage every night, move suburbs, a reference from local cop shop ? When I first got insurance - 20yrs ago - I got a letter from my boss saying I had driven company cars without incident for 5 yrs - this saved me 60% off the original quote....

    good luck

Why not try Shannons??? Your age and record will be a bonus and they look after their customers extremely well, as I found out last month - unfortunately.

    cheers

I've found calling insurance companies to be better, with my commodore i got 2 quotes through AAMI best online after 3 tries was $1500 and 1st try on the phone was $1100, went with that then somehow got refunded $220.

I just bought a VY commodore. It's only an exec with 20's and lowered with SS bodykit. Real insurance were the best by far even with the mods. They even insured my 22 year GF on the policy and only cost me around $600 a year. I think shannons over charge because of they a specialty insurer. If you can get your performance car insured elsewhere with any mods I would just go to a normal insurer.

I got quoted for $1100 for my car through Just Cars but $600 for the same cover from real... But some people with highly nodded cars don't have that choice

Ok, just the conclusion, after being able to convince Shannons that Im a car enthusiast ( thanks just commodores) they covered the lot, plus the mods ( lowered suspension, 3 inch exhaust and headers, mags) for 1080 a year. Plus, insure the sv6 for a discount. In my book, that's a sweet deal, so I'd like to thank you all very much.

And as I said earlier, they do look after you and will insure almost any mod you make to the car.

    Well done.

I got quoted $2700 and payed it first year i insured my SS. 21, male, no claims, no tickets. Paying $2000 a year now, sounds like you live in a rough area with lots of thefts...oh, you live in Darwin. Explains everyhthing i guess

Yeah that does sound a bit ruff. I assume its because of your area. Im 22 and paying 800 a year full comp with all mods insured with Just Car (Owned by AAMI) however my excess is 2800.

Wow sounds like I'm getting a good deal. I'm 22 Full insurance with window replacement and the other little add-ons like free rental if my car is in a crash blah blah blah. $1012 a year with $500 excess.
    That's through NRMA.
