Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Today i traded in my trusty v6 VT 2000 for a 2004 VY2 SS. My VT was damn near bullet proof, costing me only $500 in repairs in 5 years. But am now the very proud and very happy owner of a VY2 SS. I have a couple of questions for the good folk of JC if you'd be so good to help. Firstly, where can i find or download an owners manual for the car. I've found a workshop manual for it but it's a little heavy on the technical aspects of the car and really all i want to know is what buttons do what and what Holden recommends and so on. Secondly, driving home today (200km drive to get home) i noticed that when doing between 40 and 45km there is a loud wooooing noise from the back of the car, it seems to be worse on some road textures. The car is running 18inch alloys so i'm wondering if it could be a issue with cheap tires perhaps? or a rear wheel bearing? or something else. I have a 3 month warranty with the car so a repair wont be an issue. Thanks and hello all Steve
Has it got the rear muffler on it? That could be a Droning sorta prob? Thought it would of came with a owners manual..
As far as i can tell it has a stock exhaust system on it. My VT made a similar noise but it was no where near as loud. The previous owner really looked after the car, it's in fantastic condition but the remote for the head unit and owners manual are both missing.
Id say tyre noise, Had it before on my old VR, Swore it was the diff, new tyres it disappeared. Found it most worse on hot mix roads at about 50kms. If you have a different brand of tyre on the front rotate them around and see
Thanks for the replies guys. I think it's road noise as well.....but every now and then when i was driving it home in a built up area i was convinced that it was a diff or bearing noise or something. But then on difference pieces of road the noise was a lot less.
A quick net search might suggest that i'm not the only one experiencing noise from these tires: Please don't ever buy triangle talon tires
Another quick search is suggesting what the noise is :Triangle Talon TR968 review. I might have to invest in new tires which is a shame because there is a heap of tread on these tires.
yep had them on my car, they are poor chinese rubbish. I have now have sumitomo`s and IMO are a fair priced middle of the road tyre.
Get the vehicle up to speed where the noise is happening and then throw it into neutral. If it goes away it is not your tyres.
I got the car up to speed (43km) and it was making that awful noise, chucked it into neutral and the noise persisted so i'm about 95% sure it's the cheap and nasty tires on the car.
If it was your pinion bearing the noise would tend to go quieter when dropped into neutral (in the early stages of failing). Once they are really bad they will howl most of the time. A wheel bearing will tend to make noise as you swing the car from side to side and put force onto the bad wheel. There's a centre bearing under there in the middle of your driveshaft that can be causing your noise too. Fingers crossed its your only your tyres.
That's not really a shame, it means you get to skid up the chinese rubber before putting on real tyres.
Well, happily the missing books have arrived from the dealer. I now have the owners manual that should have been in the car to start with. Thanks for the help.
