I have a VCM MAF OTR sitting in my garage ready to go in. I've picked my exhaust system and trying to decide on some headers. Once they're all fitted and tuned, I'll revisit the fuel situation.

I have Hurricanes and love them. They are Liverpool and do good work.

How much extra HP will the headers give me? If I leave the existing manifold on, will it restrict the flow too much with a cat-back system (Manta 2-1/2"), or do I need to bite the bullet and get the headers also? I don't want it to be too loud. I live in a quiet neighborhood.

If you are concerned about how loud the car will be, put your otr cai and catback on, then see if thats your limit, if not, go ahead with the headers/cat upgrade.

Not sure if yours is a man or auto, but in my experience leaving the standard rear mufflers in place will keep the noise down, even after fitting headers.

Out of interest I was in Syd on Thursday night driving in a near new BMW 328i. I like Bimmers, very nice, but still much prefer my Redline. While very very, good (read excellent) for a 2L four, the performance was lackluster compared to my L77. Now I say this only because the instant fuel consumption under moderate acceleration often went off the scale. Well above 40L/100k. Whether your in a V8, 6 or 4 unless you're cruising just ignore the instant L/100k. The owner said the Avg consumption (city only) was 10.3. Not significantly different to my Redline, comparatively speaking. My point is the L77 with AFM lugs a very heavy car around, and delivers great performance and amazing fuel economy IMO even compared to a 2L BMW with a total kerb weight of around 1430kg.

The 328 was on my shortlist of cars to buy. The power as you said is good, interior and features very good, and it looks OK.
Ultimately the Redline gave me everything I wanted for about $20K less so it won the day.

    I thought the 328 BMW was a 6cyl not a 2l 4cyl? Have they changed to 4cyl now?

Yeah N20 four pot twin scroll turbo 19psi in F30 chassis does 0-100kph one second behind an SS, costs $20,000 more.

Im driving a VW 2.0 FSI turbo DSG hire car this week, same price as a VF six, German 2.0 four pot turbo is definitely not a four door performance car with 8s 0-100kph with two people and suitcases.
Nice gearbox, changes like a Jap sports bike, no torque converter 7 speed always changing to keep rpm in usable bandwidth.
Crap value, thirsty on fuel, cheap and tacky with no satnav or climate control.
    This is the future :(

I own 2 VF's. A 2014 sv6 ute (auto) and a 2013 ssv sedan (manual). I drive roughly a 26km round trip for work. It is mostly full of traffic lights, people who can't maintain a speed, and round abouts thats back up a bit. My average speed is 46kph according to the trip computer.

The ute gets 10L/100km average. On the highway alone it will use 7L.

In comparison, the sedan gets 13.5L/100km average. On the highway alone it will use 9L.

Both cars are stock. Hope this helps.

Don't forget that the trip computer generally lies. The only way to work it out real world is to fill up to the first click, note the kms, then drive how you normally drive until next fill, fill to first click, note the kms and the litres put in and work out how many kms you drove since last fill, then use this formula:

Litres used multiplied by 100, then divided by the number of kms driven, or L x 100 / km = L/100km.

My trip computer says my car used an average of 10.7L / 100 over the last 16,000 kms - when in actual fact it has used 12.75L / 100km over the same distance. This is up on the overall average of 11.3L / 100km over the life of the car but I have towing fairly frequently lately and had a fuel leak.

I also use an app called 'Road Trip' to keep track of my fuel use and have done since the car was new. This was how I found the small fuel leak that was costing me around 2L of fuel per day, by seeing at each fill exactly what the fuel use was since last fill, I could see the increase for no apparent reason. There is a free version but I now use the paid one.
