NZ police choose Skoda Superb as new primary response and Highway patrol vehicle, since Holden have been axed from GMs market.
After testing several makes frontline staff found the Skoda was the one that suited best , and police will use the wagon as weapon of choice , both the 162kw and 206 kw cars are to be used

The new cars are expected to be on roads next April, the Skoda is widely used by police in several European countries, including France , the Netherlands, Belgium and also the UK .,

Are they built on a Passat platform?

not certain , but as Skoda are owned by VW Audi group , so no doubt would share a similar platform with the others , the officers who tested the Skoda were impressed by its size , in the rear seats in particular and ease of use .

With that power I hope they are not planning any high speed chases.

They are apparently quite nimble, and to be fair pursuits get abandoned if the situation gets too dangerous, they are also widely used in Europe as police vehicles too , where motorway speeds are a lot higher than New Zealand’s

I got pulled up by a copper the other day and I said, awesome, you still have a VF. I thought you had gotten rid of them and he was oh, its a Holden is it. I got a little disappointed in humanity that day.

Still a fair number of VF SV6 in use in New Zealand too
