My local cops have started using Genesis G80 and strangely also the Aurion, which ceased production before the VF Commodore. Toyota must have had an unsold stockpile they wanted to clear out cheap.

Are NZ Commodores coming from Germany via Oz, ie double handling, or direct from the 'fatherland' ?
I tracked the boat bringing mine and it came from a port in Belgium direct to N.Z. and then sailed on to Australia.

I think the Kiwi police are all 2.0 liter LT based but may get the sports tuned suspension of the RS 2.0. Little 2.0 is a belter, (turbo's love cooler conditions and 98 octane fuel) and I think on most twisty Kiwi roads with its boost coming on strong low down it would be the slightly quicker point to point vehicle. Been very hot in New Zealand lately but I caught a break and it was only 17 degrees a few mornings ago. Gave it some serious stick in the cooler conditions (and fed it 98 Octane before hand), and I was VERY impressed with how my loan car LT went and the engine didn't blow up either which was a nice bonus lol. The handling is what also really impresses.

The changeover is slow but steady:

I spoke to a policewoman that was parked outside my house a few days ago in one of these things. She said they crap cars but dangerously fast! Even the cops can’t stand them!
