Hi so i put the engine back together go to start it with trepidation and lo and behold i now seem to have the very low petrol warning come up ,service vehicle soon and car turns over (no major noises) but doesn't start. So im thinking ECU? Thinking of calling a come to you mechanic to give me a second opinion. If it is the ecu i can send it somewhere to get fixed cant i ? Reading posts it seems i can get a second hand one but i need it reprogrammed ? Could it be anything else that i could be missing. Using software on elm it communicates, though doesnt show any codes. Could someone enlighten me in some way ,Feeling a bit deflated after the work ive done on it
Thanks in advance

Was it running before the timing chain job?

Highly unlikely the ECU, they are usually fairly good,
But you never know.
Always best to double check !
(Measure twice, Cut Once !)
Possible the Timing maybe out,
Best to pull the cover off and check to see if the chains are on correctly,
If it ran before, it should run again.

There are some VERY good Youtube Video's that maybe able to help with Chain Setup,
I have watched them numerous times.

I am possible doing a LY7 next week if the Parts Arrive,
If not the following week.

It was running like a dog missing , sometimes stalling as i went to stop at the lights etc. I took it to the mechanic put the reader on it and said def timing chain apart from the rattle it made when starting . Was undriveable in the end

The fuel tank warning showing very low fuel as in zero ,the needle actually going past empty brings me after reading the same kind of symptoms thats its the ecu... Apparently vz's ecu's die quickly unfortunately. And i think even if timing was 180 out which it isnt as i used the cam holders you think it would kinda want to start .it doesnt miss backfire just turns over

VZ V6 ECUs are garbage, there was (and probably still is) an epidemic of them failing a couple of years ago, to the point where Holden had no stock available in Australia for quite a while - https://forums.justcommodores.com.a...t-replacements-for-failed-ecu-bcm-pim.248864/
Having said that, alot of it is probably down to heat from where it's located.
If it is the ecu i can send it somewhere to get fixed cant i ?
Injectronics do inspection and repair (https://injectronics.com.au/register-a-repair/details/electronic-control-module/906), but I'd keep digging a little more before you decide to take that plunge as the car will usually run to some extent. Symptoms in both the links above do seem to indicate it's possibly leaning that way though.

Ok.

Check for Spark & Fuel,
Maybe try some "Start You Bastard" to see if it fires ?

May I suggest you check all other avenue's first.
You mentioned you used the Cam Holders,
and if the Crank was in the correct position, everything could should be correct,
Check all the Plugs/Connectors on the timing case in correctly ?

hiya , yeah im pretty confident with the timing "im quite sure thats fine" ( famous last words) Yes ive checked the cam solenoids or what ever they are called two longer ones and 2 smaller ones .. that was one of the codes that came up originally P0021, P0346. I was going to replace them once the car was running just because ...
Question ... how do you check for fuel? I gather you mean going to injectors?
And ill try the start ya bastard tomorrow just to see
Thanks

To Check for Fuel, where the fuel line connects to the fuel rail correctly,
disconnect it there and turn the key, do you hear the fuel Pump start ?,
if the fuel pumps fire up, you should have a supply of fuel.

If the guage says its empty, possibly it could well be.
