Hi all,

Just bought an auto 2010 VE SSV. It currently has 87200ks on the clock.

I was wondering if someone could recommend when I should get it serviced next? The previous owner has removed the windscreen sticker which usually has that information.

According to the log book it was last serviced 2/11/19 at 86388ks.

Cheers

By the book, VE's/VF's are meant to be serviced every 9 months or 15,000kms (whichever comes first) and that's from the day of first registration. Servicing within these specified intervals ensures you can preserve your warranty and not give those dealers any excuse to knock you back on warranty claims.

That being said, once the vehicle is out of warranty, it's up to you what level of service you want to perform, whether it be time or kilometre based or some more sensible mix. And while a strict adherence of time and milage may not be needed, based on usage, don't forget that brake fluid and coolant also have a time component and shouldn't be forgotten.

So, if you know date of first registration and can work forward to today, which would give you an idea of what should have been done, then compare the service booklet and check what was actually done, that'd give you an ideal of whether the vehicle was serviced as it should or some services wee skipped.

Also keep in mind that dealer service also means s/w updates and campaigns were likely done while some 3rd party service may mean that these sort of things were likely skipped.

After all that, look at overall vehicle condition and the condition of all fluids and then give it an appropriate service assuming things weren't done correctly.

As a last note, many here would say engine oils should be changed at 10,000 kms (max) and that auto trans should also be serviced before Holden's designated timeframe.

Guess it all comes down to how well you want to look after her :p

Sounds like it has been done recently. Just pull out the dipstick and check the colour of the oil. If it's almost clear light brown it's fine. If it's dark brown or black I would get it changed now so you know it's clean.

As a Rule of thumb, 10,000 k's,
But if you think its been serviced recently, do the next one at 90,000 k's, then 100,000 k's, if not, do it now and at least you know its done,
Oil and Filter approx. $60 [depends place of purchase]
As mentioned above, for piece of mind, and wont get clogged up with gunk, especially in the oil passages.

Gotta add that a service is not just an engine oil and filter change in all instances ;)

Very true, but if they didn't change the oil last service, they probably didn't do much else either ;)
