VZ SS ute 05 5.7
Hi people. I have a VZ SS ute that has lost both low beams. Couldn’t find a fuse for just low beam so took globe out of rhs to check and seemed okay. Tried test light and found power even when all turned off and no relay in. Thinking is this a fault. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Fairly sure the headlight circuits are switched on the ground side.

If you take a standard circuit it's common that it is switched on the positive side of the circuit.

Battery + ----fuse ------ relay---------light
Battery - ----------------------------------

But from VT onward Holden started switching the head light circuits on the negative side so now you have

Battery + ----fuse----------------------- light
Battery - ----------relay------------------

Do the high beams work?

The headlights are switched via the high beam switch so when you turn the high beams on the low beams turn off. It's possible the high beam switch is faulty.

Yeah got high beams. Thinking I just need low beam globes. I actually didn’t know they were just low beam. Stepson told me and the back of the globe says 55w only not 55/90 like I thought. Just didn’t want to waste money on globes just to blow them putting them in.

There is a relay for low beam and one for high beam. Swap them around. They live under that black rectangle behind the battery and in front of the strut tower.

Low beam relay swapped with high beam relay should mean no high beams and have low beam.
