    Hi all,

I've noticed something on my VX auto. Under the gear shifter plate it I get a plastic squeaking noise when I drive. At first I thought the shifter plastic was not lined up but the bazaar thing is it happens only sometimes. If I stop the car, restart the engine the noise is gone. Next time I start the car it may or may not come back. Its random and annoying.

Could it be more then just the plastic rubbing against each other?

sounds like you need a trans service, the plastic rubbing sound maybe your plastic consoles and various things in you vehicle, i suggest taking it to a holden dealer or your mechanic (if you have one) and get them to diagnose your problems it will be much faster then here although its a pretty quick response

How much does a transmission service go for? I'm looking at buying a car in the near future but if the transmission service costs a lot, I might get another car sooner then later.

lol @ buy a new car coz yours needs a tranny service.
do it yourself or pay about 100 to get it done.
i also had some noises around my shifter the other day, the button snaped inside the shifter and is now sticking out about 3cm.
new button as soon as ive got time.

it can be from $100 to $2000 depending on what damage is done but it may be your link shifter aswell, its a small rod that changes gears, trust me its easily fixed i am going to have mine done..
