Looking at Holparts site today, I noticed that they advertise genuine and non-genuine body panels and bumper facias. How good is the non-genuine stuff and where does it originate? I suspect some factory in South East Asia or China. Has anybody bought this stuff and is it good quality or crap? How does it compare to the real thing?
Those panels are made from lighter softer steel. So they dent easy, that's a bad thing. Lighter that's a good thing. So it depends on what you want to do with them
what green foam said, i bought a non genuine tail gate for the vs and it dented extremely easy and was very flimsy.
I got a few mates that are panel beaters....and they said with the non-genuine fenders they gotta make all the mounting holes bigger to allow for adjustment.
yer i have a non genuine panel on the front of my vn doesnt line up and is just crap, its coming off when i get my next smashed car
non genuine stuff is not the best, holes dont line up some brackets etc are wrong/missing flimsy sharp edges....be really careful of them, ive sliced my hands many times on edges not correct shape, ie guard around indercators but with a bit of tampering and patience you can make a non genuine guard/panel fit perfect its just alot of mucking around and heaps easyer/quicker to use a genuine part most non OEM parts are from asia
i guess this is why my spray painted recommended i bolt up my new fluted guards and line them up before its painted
If you look at the Holparts website, you'll see that the price difference between genuine and crap isn't all that much. I'll bet if you purchased the cheap stuff, you'd soon wish you'd spent the extra for the real thing.
plastics i find seem to be pretty good usually, but steel panels are crap as everyone above has said.
My panel beater warned me to not get anything none gen.. His reason was he believed they didn't match up good enough. He said if your lucky they will but more then likely they wont. I bought some aftermarket mirrors and they **** me to death, They look good work but they virbreate like a bitch when driving.
chucked my non gen. panels on today to see if they needed adjustement before i got them painted, this is how it went on basically by itself, not real pushing or shoving into shape
if thats not bolted on then that would be a good fit when finished, just really need to try and get the gaps right when tightening it all up
also depends on the brand some companys can make good replica guards and some other asian companys struggle to even get the shape
Well, I have to say that they look damn good. Panel margins are even, no ripples or damage and I assume they fitted straight on pretty easily. Andyman, perhaps you were just lucky, but they seem ok. Are the vent inserts copies too, or the real thing?
