Whats a good quality water pump for a V6 VX series 2 Commodore engine and while I'm at it the same goes for the radiator and fans.
I had the overheating kight come on recently and probably because it was 2 litres low but just for piece of mind I'm going to replace the radiator, fans and water pump so I'm wondering what are great brand names for the required parts.

I just go Gates for the waterpump. Radiator I use NATRAD. Why are you replacing the fans? Check to make sure both blades work, if so then leave them.

I have used 3 Protex Water pumps from super cheap auto on 3 different cars, First one has been on for about 4 years, 2nd about 2 years the other 1 year, No faults to be found.
I bought a Repco Radiator, it was $275 i know its expensive but when your side tank has let go on a sunday you cant really hunt for a bargin, about 1 year old no problems.
So long as the fan are in good condition, no need to replace. Replace the thermostat, Heater tap & hoses while your at it also if you want to keep the system in good working order :)

My Commodore was really sensitive to just being low in the radiator by a small amount, and it would overheat. It was almost as though a small deficency of water decrease circulation markedly.

Thanks for the help guys and I start 6 weeks leave tomorrow so I'm buying the parts as you suggested tomorrow.

Two more questions, when undoing the automatic transmission cooler pipes will I lose fluid and is transmission fluid harmful to paint work.

Recently the engine hot signal came on and the radiator took 2 litres of water and I noticed the left fan wasn't on but I doubt the engine was even hot because the radiator cap came straight off without any great pressure and when I say the left fan thats when I'm facing the windscreen. I've never seen that fan on so is it faulty or does it only come on at high speed, under load or when the air conditioner is on high on a 40 degrees day.
