What makes it worse is that some of these fires have been deliberately lit. Some of them have been caught but not many. I can't think of any fitting punishment, nothing that will bring back the loss of life and property.
Those firefighters who put their lives on the line day in day out should be regarded as living treasures. Those who are volunteers should be paid for their time. It is not good enough that their efforts should not be compensated.

It was the lead article on TVNZ news tonight, seeing a fire climb a cliff looked frightening and the firefighters looked shell shocked
I’ve a theory on people who deliberately light fires , if caught they should serve at least six months working in a burns unit of s hospital, to make them aware of the damage and pain they can cause

Luckily (and unusually) our area has not been directly impacted by the fires. Lots of smoke with ash falling, but.

Agree about the dickheads lighting fires, there has been the few, but this year it has been different, dry lightning and embers starting spot fires kilometres away, and fires in every state at the same time.
Combined with drought, and ‘Green’ concerns about forest management, the whole country was a disaster time bomb that has finally gone off.

As for the ‘horrendous’ temperatures being experienced, it has been hotter for longer, in the past. Social media, sensational reporting and short memories contribute to the panic and concern about climate change. Some historical research should be done by the doom-sayers.
What was different in the 1890’s and 1960’s ?……. no Greta.

TOURIST TELLS ALL: PM’s dismissive comment during Hawaii holiday
"The tourist told 10 News he asked Mr Morrison whether was going home to “resolve the bushfire situation”.

“His comment to me is that this was a state issue,” he said.

“He was quite happy to sit and have cocktails served to him when our firefighters are doing it really hard."

What the hell was he supposed to do? Piss on the fire? When he's away, we have a Deputy PM acting is his place. State Fire chiefs were active, federal cabinet was in recess but ministers were still in the country. This is just a leftist bullshit beat-up. As if the PM's presence was going to make any difference to the fires. His timing wasn't great but isn't the national leader entitled to holidays like the rest of us? They were planned before the fires became so widespread and none of us had a crystal ball to see how fast or widespread they would develop.

What is he supposed to do? Have some empathy and not be an a**e hole would help ... a politicians job is a full time holiday ... its one of the laziest jobs to get ... they are not leaders ... they are parasites sucking on the public purse ... generally speaking it is peasants that need leaders whereas strong wealthy men generally do not ... that's why this country is weak in mind and spirit ..

But you didn't. DSM. And you can't help making snide personal remarks. That says a lot about you.
