In modifying my VS, what sort of problems can i cause when i go to renew my rego in march?

Thus far, I've only added the cold air intake and a cat back exhaust is going in next saturday, with a memcal in the works...

It must be a real pain down there to have to pass rwc every year.. bugger that... Me old Landcruiser would have been sent to the dump years ago!

I think we should have that law up here too.... sure my car would sit in the shed for a while, but everything which would fail rwc won't be a hassle with the new engine.

not too sure on current nsw laws, but I think it'll mostly be the same, pink slip green slip you have now. can't see why a CAI and catback will be a hassle. I think it's when you start the real mods that things change

If you have a factory type CAI then it should be no problems:thumbsup:
But if it's a home grown setup with an exposed pod filter in the engine bay it could be a no go for pink slip.
Exhaust and memcal should be OK.
With an annual RWC in NSW the older cars are kept up to an acceptable roadworthy standard, and at least the minimum maintenance is carried out on them.

I dont think you will run into any probs most ppl just do a check of the crucial running systems of a car an its saftey features.
What did you have in mind for mods? as i know the catback and CAI wont be a prob

hopefully in the next 6 months I'll have a new camshaft and a gearbox rebuild (to increase acceleration and decrease top speed).

That'll be about it for the next 12 months or so...

Eventually, I'll put a charger on it after a rebuild

lol i dont think ud have any probs passing a pinkslip if u only have a cai and zaust.....

wait until u have to start cramming massive amounts of steel wool in your exaust and changing your suspention back to stock.. putting smaller wheels on and explaining that the washer bottles are in the guards.....

lol then its a hassle getting pink slips

It depends very much on who is writing the pink slip. Almost any mods other than wheels changes within specified sizes, without an engineers report or testing for approval by the (3rd party) manufacturer are, strictly speaking, illegal. The NSW RTA has available technical bulletins accessible on their website for details.

NSW is not that bad getting a pink slip, it depends on who does the inspection. My cars got a crack on the front window (passenger side) and I got my pink slip. If the crack was on the drivers side, then no pink slip.

The mechanic I take my car to get my pink slips checks lights, has a very quick look at the engine bay and brake test and thats it, over in two minutes.

Not exactly, a lot of minor modifications including changing the seats and later model engines ect. can be done on a blue slip, no engineers report required.

I actually don't mind the Rego NSW way. I reckon it makes you very aware of what a roadworthy car is and also how to maintain it. I have traveled to other states and some of the cars there I would hate to run into as they have so much rust in them that they are dangerous.
Also in NSW if you hear a rattle or your brakes are getting bit soft then you get them fixed pretty soon as if you don't come rego time your repair bill is higher.

Old saying I know but it's a good 1 Better to be Safe than Sorry!
