07? Holden Barina. Sister in law needed to get new plates as hers were stolen.
What's the laws on drilling the plate? Old ones had 2 screws in the middle. One screw slightly over the lettering. She wants to do the same but Vic Roads says no.

seen plenty come through work like that, shouldnt be a problem. if a screw makes the lettering unreadable to a cop, they need new glasses.

that or pop into autobarn and grab a set of numberplate protectors that are made to suit ;)

Protectors are crap. They are just plastic **** that would snap.

Sister in law is just worried about what Vic Roads said. She has seen plenty like that too.

Go to your local police station and ask them.
Get it straight from the horses mouth.

It probably comes down to defacing and altering the plate which technically you can't do.
But I can't see that doing harm, if it's going to secure the plates to the car better.

My daughter bought a brand new Mazda 3 in 2006, the holes in the number plate line up exactly with the holes in the front bumperbar, however for some unknown reason the dealer has drilled 2 holes through the numerals to fit the plate, have no idea why. Have a look at the pic below.

protectors are only going to snap if you actually try to snap them, otherwise theyll do the job fine.

you can get brackets made, or probably buy some, thats going to be your only options without drilling new holes.

dont forget to pick up some one way screws so this set is harder to steal!
