Should I use 91 or 98 to fuel my 2012 ve commodore sv6? Did not find the information on the manual book.
Do three tanks full of 91 and then check fuel usage and power and then 3 tanks full of 98 and do the same - make an educated decision. 91 will most likely be the more economical. I have access to cheaper 98, so that's all I use. And I never use E10 or E anything fuels
Nothing wrong with using e fuels in a late model car mate, I run e10 98 octane that we get here in NZ and the car loves it
Talk to me in 10/20/30 years time and see if it's the same. Why did Holden drop E85 compatible cars after thr MY12 Commodore range? Their VF's are e10 only again. I bet car manufacturers are only E10 compatible because they have to be. E fuels also use more fuel per km to produce the same outputs, so litre for litre they are less economical. Race cars? Sure, use E85
What it comes down to is personal choice really I am Using e10 95RON I am happy with my 08 3.6 running highway in the low 10L/pkl and thats towing a small van. Around the city she will chew even driving like a granpa. She's done well over 200ks and I have never touched the engine....Touch wood. I found years ago that if U use a quality oil and regularly you will have very few dramas. Neglect is often a recipe for disaster
OP don’t use 91, will adapt but not good. Use e10 (94+ octane) or e85 (107+ octane) when you can / when it’s cheap. Your engine and year model is quite unique in its native ability to get the most out of ethanol based fuels. Even if it’s only once in a while is good for your particular engine, is the SV6 model I am looking to buy. Of course engine will run on the gamut of fuel at pump, but for the long term and / or if you want to get the most out of your drive then do ethanol fractions when you can.
I use 95 because it costs about the same once you get a tad better economy, 98 is too hard to get in Tas very few places sell it. 91 is nowhere near as clean a 95 and 98. If you don't agree clock up 80k on your fuel filter, remove it and hit is with compressed air, brown sludge will come out. Where as premium fuels don't have the same issue. 91 means injectors will need periodic cleaning. 95 and 98, rarely if ever will they need cleaning.
I know nothing about e fuels. Would I get comparable economy out of e10 to 91? Are there any long term affects?
Depends which engine and model year as to calibration of stock tune vs driving style for consumption really, but much much better off with e10 94+ than the sulphurous sludge called 91 from longevity and performance POV.
Yes and no. Will it improve power and economy yes. But will you notice the increase in HP doubt it. But after 4 or 5 tanks you will notice you don't need to fill up as often.
Definitely e10 is cheaper at some servos, yes you can make more power mainly feel more grunt under the torque peak. You should also try e85 if you live near where flex fuel is available, your engine will transform, literally. Sometimes costs much less than e10 or 91: eFlex Mackenzie is Heaven Can't help but smile when you save $40+ at the pump
