I have a VU Series2 SS Ute. A few mods and well its a never ending story.

I have had a squizz at installing after market gauges in addition to the instrument cluster. This would require a pillar pod or dash mount cups.

The best gauge I can see out there is the interceptor or the PLX variant, of which both plug into the OBD port. Total install estimate the $800-$1000

I have locked on to a Magden unit <http://magden-auto.com/> which conveniently plugs into the OBD and outputs customisable gauges to my DVD head unit. Sweet looking, great info and the unit features data recording capability. Where as the aforementioned gauges do not. Total cost $650 USD + the usual.

I am at a loss to determine the OBD type or the protocol, I suspect SAE J1185-VPW. I have read on some tuners forums that the VX may not be fully OBD2 compliant.

I flicked Magden folks in the US an email. With the response
"We have a 2001-2002 Chevy Camaro validated and GM uses the same protocol on all their vehicles, J1850. "

What is the low down on the VU2 or VX OBD system and can this Magden systems work with my car?

I did try a HKS Camp2 with no result except that the engine warning light remained on while I had it plugged in. No surpirses but i thought it was worth a crack.

After speaking to the Aussie distributor he said it is pot luck with these gauges some work on our cars some don't that is why he doesn't stock them anymore

i have an incar dvd player like yourself mate and i wanted to have gauges come up so easiest soloution is to use your laptop if you own one and hope it has a video out/s video port and then just plug that into your dvd player and getyourself efi live and just set the dash to full screen
