I was driving at about 60Km and all of a sudden an metal on metal clunking/clicking started to emmit from about mid car. I've got no power loss and the sound is intermittent and goes in time with speed of the car. However after a click/clunk it disappears and the car is fine. Then it'll come back again randomly last for about 5mins then go. I'm thinking trans cause when i go to neutral it stops but asoon as it's back in drive it comes back. I removed the tailshaft and checked it over CV and uni seems ok a little worn in CV. however the spline shaft at the back of the trans u can move it around is that normal? Also if the sounds come back, if i boot it the sound goes higher in frequency but isn't as loud when i slow down it turns into a loud clunk metal on metal sound. Any ideas would help. Cheers. Also is an Auto 4HDD

Looks like something is loose down there. Is your exhaust is touching anything??

Sounds like the noise my car was making when my handbrake was broken and the handbrake cable was touching the exhaust
