Long rant...

So I was handed the entire accounts of many big corporations and I found that there were many big discrepancies which pointed to the incompetence and carelessness of the department head. To make a long story short, it took me one week to audit the accounts and now the head accountant is blaming me for not pinpointing the matter sooner. The accountants have been in the business for 10 odd years, and I've been given this auditing role in Dec last year.
I'm not an auditor by profession (I'm an engineer by training), I just knew how to dig and track down all the unpaid invoices over the last 10 years which was so 'convincingly' hidden in the accounts department. Now that I have presented the facts to the management, it seems the entire department which I audited, is scrutinizing all manner of behaviour trivia just to make me look incompetent. But they have failed.

I was just doing my job well, I love working for this Company for the many benefits I have. Very disappointed.

You'll quickly find out who your friends are when money is involved. Greed is a sad thing. I've walked out on the spot on a couple of jobs when coworkers were treated unfairly and sacked leaving the boss in a rather bad position. What goes around....

If management of this particular company is worth its crust and the errors are significant, it should investigate the errors you have detected and ascertain exactly how and why they occurred. Is there any evidence of dishonesty which would suggest that police investigation is required? The paper trail should enable management to place blame where it lies, not just allow the head accountant to attribute them to you. If you've only been doing the job since December, it's a bit hard to see how they can attribute errors which occurred prior to that time to you. Do you have confidence in management to act effectively in this matter?

That's positive. Unofficially, there's talk about re shuffling the staff in that department. For legal matters as to how a lot of the company's funds are 'missing', I will leave that up to the owners. Ironically, it was my back ground in computers that can trace back these 'missing' payments from 10 years back. At the moment, just keeping a low profile in the office

Best thing you can do at the moment is put your head down and ensure all your work is done correctly so they have no comeback on you

I remember working at a venue where other staff were stealing alcohol, money, cleaning products and doctoring timesheets, etc and when I brought this to the attention of the venue management I was the one who received an official warning as I shouldn't have been 'spying' on my fellow staff

These kind of situations make it awkward to want to make friends in the workplace as if you put your trust in co-workers and they let you down like this it's not a good feeling at all

If this is exactly as you say it is... The powers that be will seriously appreciate what you've done. Keep doing your work as best as possible and don't give anyone any recourse for anything negative you do.

This will be sorted out behind a lot of closed doors I imagine. It will be like a silent whirlwind passes through the office that magically doesn't touch you.

Yes, there's a lot of contempt for you, but not from management (if they're smart and appreciative).
