You want an oil that has a SN rating, basically.
You can't go wrong with something from Penrite, Castrol, Nulon, Liqui Moly, Royal Purple, to name a few.

I run the Penrite 5w30 Dexos rated oil at present. Once the car gets a few kms on it I'll be switching over to a 5w40 or 10w40 from Penrite.
Penrite also do a 5w40 Dexos 2 rated oil. While aimed at diesel, it can be used for petrol engines too.

A lot of people like Castrol Edge 10w60.

I stick with Mobil1 5W30, with a oil and filter change between each scheduled service interval.

Thanks for your comments Gents. Interesting Big Jim I talked to a guy with a cammed NA VE Maloo last week and he uses the 10/60.
I have also used the Dexos2 Penrite in my last 6L VF and found it was good. Apparently it's dexos1 compliant and I'm thinking with now 35k on the clock it may be a good option. I've noticed since the camshaft install the lifters are noticeably chattery at about 1500-2000 rpm and I'm hoping it may reduce this a little at least

Running a thicker oil in a cammed engine can help make things quieter, however you're naturally going to have a noisier valve train.

I switched from Penrite 5-30 Dexos to Penrite non Dexos HPR 5 (5w40) when the supercharger went on because of the extra heat as suggested by my mechanic. Can't tell the difference but it gets changed each 4.5 months (about 4000k).

What lifters? My head cammed 6L has morel tie bar lifters and calls for 5w 40 max weight oil

I changed to 10/tenths penrite 10-40 , after ringing penrite tech line, for a modified LS3/L98 engine, running aftermarket cat converters, they recommend using the 10/tenths, better quality oil than there other range they sell. Have noticed the valvetrain in general is very quiet now and car feels abit smoother sounding.
