Hey guys, just want your thoughts, last thursday I bought a 2011 SII SSV ute, it has 17,000kms on it. About 20-30 mins into the drive home the oil light came on. To cut it short, I brought it to my closest dealership and they have said its a major job. They illiminated the pressure switch, could be an oil pump. Has anyone had this problem with their VE? I know it's under warranty so I'm ringing the dealership I bought the car from tomorrow and working it out. Why would a near new car have this problem??

Wow way to jump the gun and accuse people of wrongful doing. My old man just got a brand new car and it's been having check engine light coming on and off. There's always going to be a few cars that have defects and faulty parts from factory, which is why they have the warranty. Doesn't help your question but don't let knobs like guy above put things in your head and get stressed.

Turn the car around, take it back to the place you bought it, demand they fix the problem. Don't leave or give until they do...

    Cool story bro!

Never herd of cluster changes and dodgy dealers...

17xxx ks and it most likely has a blocked oil pic up ? That happeneds with high k cars not low!

I havent heard of any ve series 2011 model with 17k on it!! To have a stuffed oil pick up thats pretty rare thats why i am saying i wouldnt believe them ks.. He has only owned it since thurs so thats harsh..

Calling me a knob is abit harsh.. Its a forum and he wants sugestions and opinions.! Thats what i gave..

    So STFU!

Most people wouldn't and that's how they get away with it half the time. Regardless of whether it's an easy fix or a major job, it's there job to sell you a trouble free car and that's what you should get. It's the minority that stick it to these people to get what they paid for.

Heads up people, read the rules. Calling people knobs and saying STFU is against the rules.

    Next insult earns an infraction.

Over reaction much?? If it's under warranty then meh - they'll fix the problem and life goes on.

I have never heard of such issues before either but you are seriously jumping to conclusions. He wants well founded opinions, you just give the first thing that pops into your head with zero evidence to support the crap you type. Have you examined the car looking for signs that the odo may be tampered with? In your many years of experience working on and driving these cars (how old are you again??), how many have you personally seen with this issue? Have you spoken to the selling dealer to establish that they are acting dishonestly? Have they declined the warranty claim and if so why?

Actually I'd turn the car off. Make a phone call to the dealer and ask them to come and get it. Driving a car around with the oil light on could do further serious damage and cause any warranty claim to be (rightfully) denied. Be firm, but calm and polite.

Based on the above, are you sure that's such a good idea? Surely somebody with your extensive knowledge and experience wouldn't advocate such action?

Really?? Most people driving home after making a $35k (?) purchase and warning lights light up on the dash would just shrug their shoulders and pay for the repair?? Are you sure about that? You seem to think that the offending dealer knew about the issue and deliberately sold the car that was faulty. If it is the case, please detail the evidence you based your opinion off.

ITT: a bunch of kids who know little to nothing about dealing with used cars.

    blocked pickup. LOL.

drive calmly and on the speed limit back to the dealer. park quietly in the lot. approach the receptionist calmly, then explain to the service technition what needs to be fixed, then wait the 2 weeks for it to get done.

forcing your way in and making demands will put you to the back of the queue. i know because thats what i would do when some hot-head tells me whats what.

statutory warranty is the law for a car that age, but it doesnt mean they have to do it quickly. be a twat and you could be waiting months to get it back.

Sorry man didn't realize you had vast mechanical knowledge of everything... In the future from now on ill take every little thing that goes wrong happened because of people making a quick $$ and being dodgey. Also you never heard of a 1 year old car having only 17000km?? Suppose everyone must do minimum 20000 a year.

Could be something as simple as damaged wiring for the oil pressure sensor or even water in the plug, open loop will set the light off. All the issues with the idiot light I've ever had have been related to that.

The stealership will fix it anyway, best not to drive on it.

I agree. In my experience, low oil pressure lights have been almost always caused by either not enough oil (easily checked and corrected) or problems with the oil pressure switch.

If the engine is suffering from low or no oil pressure, you will generally get more than just a warning light fairly quickly.

I saw a very interestly issue with a low pressure oil warning light years ago. The engine would start normally, but after a couple of minutes the light would illuminate. An increase in engine revs would then extinguish the light for a short while, then it would come on again.

In this case, it turned out that the diaphragm had a small leak that slowly allowed pressure to equalise both sides. Changed the oil pressure switch and all was well again.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. Rang Holden first thing this morning, it's booked in for next week, the sales person that sold me the car was like "yep just book it in to the service department no questions asked. The dealer that I brought it to last night said I can drive it just dont put the foot down too much. FYI the oil pressure was around 25psi where it should be around 50psi. Thanks guys let u all know what the end result is.

Are you for real? You've never heard of a year old car with 17K on the clock?

How did you diagnose it as having 'most likely a blocked oil pickup'? Do you have information no-one else does?

Blaming dodgy dealers and dodgy kms is just ridiculous. Brand new cars have faults, dealers repair them.

If you buy a VN from Greasy Harrys Autos, you may expect some dodgys. If you buy a year old car, you can be reasonably sure the dealer is reputable and will sort you out.

Have you ever noticed that caryards which sell new/ish cars don't sell cheapies? That's because they know they are too much trouble. They wont buy a cheapy outright, and if they trade one its been sold to Greasy Harrys before they have even finished the paperwork for the trade. Usually they call Greasy Harrys before they even give you a trade-in price.. what he offers them is what they offer you.

They don't keep the crap cars.

got my ute back about a week ago, there was a blockage in the sump pickup. they said it was like a build up of carbon: what you would generally see in an older car. all fixed under warranty, had a loan car for the entire week it was there. seems to be ok now. seems like the lifters are a bit noisy when i start it, can be normal i know, but im happy with it now just want to drive. thanks for the input guys.
