Hey Guys, just wondering if anyone knows where the oil pickup tube is located and how far it hangs down into the sump? Trolley jack slipped off the K frame and dented my sump pretty bad today :bang:. I cranked it over by hand, ran it and revved with no noises and also no light but I'm still not sure until I can check the oil pressure.

Any pics of where it sits would be great.

Cheers

Oil light would come on if there was no oil pressure. It should be ok. If you are still really paranoid about it, drain the oil out, take the sump off, inspect it yourself for any damage and replace the sump :)

if its dented slightly but not near the pickup, why would you change the sump? thats a pain in the arse to do, and why do you always post the same crap all the time instead of what people ask for?

hope this helps - this is the pickup and it sits kinda centre to the big bulge of the sump

Hard to describe... its pretty much in the middle of the sump.

How badly did it dent in? Ive seen some that have terrible dents, yet still run fine. Then i have a mate who ran over something on the road that sucked up as he went over it. it hit the sump and pressed it in very slightly, the engine spun a bearing not long after.

so i guess depends how paranoid you get.. if it runs fine.. could well be fine?

Thanks guys. It sure is a pain in the ass to replace that's why I was asking. How far does it hang down? I was hoping to find a side on shot of the bottom end. It's pretty badly dented but oil light hasn't flicked on once. The temp is also good along with no bad noises...
Here are some pics from my phone sorry for the bad quality. Towards the front isn't dented in that much. Very hard to show the right angle...

Yeah I would also look to changing it out or at least panel beating it back to near normal. But it maybe missing the pick up bottom cause the major indent in more to the back of sump.

Cheers

The damage has probably shoved the pickup up a bit. If the top of that pickup (where the pickup bolt up) comes open and sucks air, then you can say byebye to the engine
