Hi all. im currently running 4.11 diff gears and on long drives im worried i might be getting high oil pressures from sitting on about 2500rpm at 100kph.. whats a normal reading for a v8efi at start up? and whats a normal reading at hot?? i have a gauge jus need some guidelines.. and will a higher performance oil work better for this set up? any recomendations?

cheers

Engine oil pressure is regulated although at 2500rpm it won't be max'd out yet, especially on a stock spec engine.

I can't remember the standard type oil pressures but it won't be a lot at idle with hot oil.

What sort of oil pressures are you seeing and what type/grade of oil are you using?

I think the light flickers around 7psi.
A rough rule of thumb is 10psi per 1000rpm so 2000rpm will roughly be 20 psi. etc etc.

The 10 psi per 1000 rpm rule is more to work out peak pressure.

If anything, a little more oil pressure is better than a little less.

My manual says,

Oil pressure hot:

48kpa (7psi) @500 rpm
275-414kpa (39-60psi) @ 2000rpm

All of this should be based on the standard engine oil which I think is a 20w-50. Been a older engine with a few km's on it I would expect you may see a little less oil pressure @ 2000rpm but max oil pressure should be about the same.

ah cheers guys. i have only jus bough the car and its still in transport coming home. the owner warned me of driving it long distances with the 4.11 diff ratio he said the oil pressure will get too high. it has a gauge so i thought i would grab some numbers off yas and give it a good run and see what kind of pressures i get. pics should be up soon! jus been sprayed jet black with new decals chucked on looks pretty fresh!

vs 5L Berlina
i use penrite hpr15
4327_d.jpg

on my electric sender autometer gauge when idling mine sits around 25psi, cruising sits around 50psi and goes up to about 75psi when i sink the boot into the pedal.
all figures are rough as they vary slightly depending what the revs are. ive got a standard vs v8 lsd
i can not see an issue about having to much oil pressure but could be wrong.

Use HPR 30 for starters.

I get around 13-15PSI hot idle with HPR30.......I have seen a lot worse with 304's .....they can run on next to no pressure at idle
