Anyone know the life expectancy of the oil pump?

Oil light is only one for a split second on startup but I guess it's something you're not going to hear when it's on the way out.

I get that for a second, after I put the V8 throttle body in (bored out to 75mm)!

I'd reckon they'd last the life of the engine to overhaul time - in excess of 200K and maybe up to 400K. They work in a bath of oil so wear must be minimal. The oil light will not go out till the filter is filled (some drain back) and all oil lines filled with oil - this may take a second or two. A lot of cars need oil pressure to switch a relay which powers the fuel pump - it's designed to cut fuel supply in the case of an accident where the engine is stopped but ignition is still on. Not sure if Commodores have this feature.
