Hi guys, I have a 2001 VX SS V8 Commodore and recently I've been having problems with the oil warning light coming on. I've been advised by a few mechanics that it must be a faulty alarm as there's no fault registered, however when listening under the hood it seems quite 'clicky' and raspy which would indicate that there's not enough oil getting to the top of the engine. When I get the revs up the light turns off and the engine seems to run smoother. It seems to mainly do it when it's cold and when it has new oil in it. Any ideas on where to start with trying to figure this one out? PJ
Oh and to add to this... when starting the engine (I think especially on cold starts) there is about 5 seconds of the raspy sound similar to the sound when the warning light comes on - again sounds as if there is no oil on the top of the engine and it's not very happy about it!
When was the oil filter changed last? And what type of oil was used? Id be taking it back to a mechanic and getting them to actually test the oil pressures,(both hot and cold pressures) and then go from there. Let us know how you go with it.
