https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Commodore_(VB)

The Holden Commodore (VB) is a mid-size car that was produced by the Australian manufacturer Holden, from 1978 to 1980. It was the first iteration of the first generation of the Holden Commodore.
The car was officially launched on 26 October 1978 with showrooms receiving the first examples on 13 November 1978. Production of the VB only lasted seventeen months, the shortest reign of any Commodore. The VB Commodore was effectively the successor of the Holden HZ, although most models in that series continued to be produced until the introduction of the facelifted VC Commodore on 30 March 1980.

So according technically,,,, you could from 27th Oct 1978 launch buy your new VB from dealer 13th November 1978, get it road registered and be driving it before Xmas 1978.

So is that your 1979 VB model or a factory manufactured legally road registered 1978 VB ???

Perhaps read the posts correctly and you will notice that Holden went from September being the start of the new year, rather than the actual year wikipedia states.....Hence why it has been mentioned it would be technically a 1979 model car

Once again am not disputing maybe a 79, thing registered as 78 according to original paperwork,
Also has been suggested it may be the pre-order car to meaning bought 78 and delivered 79 and AND RTA uses bill of sale at the time when register it when plates gone .. with old rego details and original road plate # ect. and mix up with a bill of sale date?
who knows??
have post pics rego papers previously showing dates and vin,
shown vin on the car on pics previously.
CAR IS ONE BLACK SHEEP ! (webster dictionary " odd one of the flock")
as all I know is that holden had to make or sell a certain amount in 78 to qualify for the Australian rally championship ( which actually was the testing ground for the v series cars.)
The KING PETER BROCK and COLIN BOND both drove the untested VB as the race was a developmental stage(technically) and the holden won 1st 2nd 3rd in its class and Peter Brock recognized this as his greatest ever race win, as was done in an untested car and the birth of the big bangers as he called them it is said.
As brock and holden factory cars running at the time were torranas at Bathurst and touring car series.
possibly mine was bought 78 and actually turn up in 79 and #s weird?
I don't know and please don't read the wrong way not having a go or dig
Am just happy I can put the car back on road legally again soon and have to use the paperwork RTA give me and they all read 78,
and am not bucking the system as I just want the old girl back on the road and just do what RTA tells me to.

Errr Bond wouldn't be driving them, being contracted to Ford hence the Ford Cortina in Repco Reliability Trial.

was told bond may be wrong and willing to admit it (I'm still learning here and is good)...but for a fact was BROCK with the greatest win coment and nick name big bangers, and also why HDT VC was so good as they had the info from the old VB already as a heads up on the opposition and why went so well when the commodores entered the stage in touring cars categories.( and ford factory team gone to be politically correct!)
so who were the other drivers do you know or anyone else knows?
as would love to know their names as they part of commodore folk law..
and something that should not be forgotten as they are a part of the holden history too.

thank you and will note ALL.
for young ones out there these are the PIONEERS, the real men that helped put commodores on the map
as these people all before or not HDT...
what these boys did back then set the footing that made HDT and up until the last special performance vehicle made by holden to date.
these the true godfahers of commodores as BROCK was not the only one.

thats not the place we are talking,
after taking grill out, to see up, the auxiliary fan and condensor would stop you seeing the bottom part of the radiator support panel. Look through the bottom pressed out cutouts to the top panel of the radiator support panel where you can also see the bonnet latch and spring mechanism along there.

Take out as much as you like...You need to remove the panel to see underneath...You see taking the grill out will show the bottom panel, not the top one that the number is stamped into...That and also where the 2 panels are actually joined together via spot welds...

Take the radiator out...That will expose more of the gaps inbetween the top and bottom panels, which unless you have a really small head, you'll never see....

The bottom panel below the radiator...Again, all you'll see is the bottom panel of the radiator support panel, not the one the number is stamped into...

As for the owner being paranoid...What's that got to do with looking for a number stamped into a panel?

As for oldm8 Greg talking shitt...Would you like his address so you can tell him to his face, whilst you are checking out the commodore for the number stamped in the radiator support panel, whilst looking underneath? Now that would make an interesting youtube video

Or is it you are talking shitt because you have been shown as being wrong not only by the video but also another member...
you seem to be confused with the body panels and like to slightly distort correct facts of vehicles where things are and what other people say. Maybe read post #28 properly.

If you take out the radiator, you can see under the radiator support panel lower cutouts or through the side cutouts the radiator covered up, offffff course you can:t stick your head through unless your an ant.
You can also take out the lower baffle cover attached to the lower radiator crossmember, stick your head under car and look up if your car doesn:t have a/c
Also the lower sheetmetal piece of the radiator support panel has metal cutouts from the factory press which are directly under the top sheet metal where the chassis number and plate are.

Or is it you are talking shitt because you have been shown as being wrong not only by the video but also another member...

Your very very short video doesn:t shown anything under the radiator support panel, it just shows the engine bay and a quick glimpse of the radiator support panel side cutouts next to radiator because your missing the plastic cover trim that goes over that area between the radiator support panel and over radiator top.

Your question about talking shitt ???, well anyone who has ever stripped an engine bay for paint would know who likes talking through a tight hole.
