Omega ute weight and diff ?

Hi all
Anyone know the true weight of the VE Omega utes? 6 cylinders 3.6 and the 3.0 litre. Fuel consumption? with both auto and manual.

I saw that the VZ ute is about 1530kg and the VE omegas are the same or a bit more than the sedans at 1650kg.
So
Made me think
if the VZ is 1.5 tonne, in manual. Is the diff shorter in the utes (To rev out quicker to aid carrying extra loads) compared to the sedans. Maybe fit a sedan diff to improve economy in the ute. Cause its not lugging around the extra weight of the sedan?? It will be rare for me to carry heavy loads. I'm not interested in racing or off the mark get aways as I do a lot of country highways.

As for VE diff ratio's, I'm not 100% sure of their specific ratios....Someone else will know what's exactly what with them

Typically Commodores have always had the same diff regardless of body. The only difference are with the LS manuals VT-VF which got 3.45 instead of 3.07 VT2-VZ or 2.92 VE+ and probably the same for V6 manuals VE onwards.

Auto HSV got a 3.27 and manual got 3.7.

On utes, I thought the GVM was actually specified on the compliance label on the left B pillar but I don’t think there is any TARE or net weight officially listed (sales brochures don’t count, rego papers are probably better).

Best way to know real TARE weight is to fill up the fuel tank and put it on a weighbridge. Your Carry Capacity = GVM - TARE = (all passengers and anything else you chuck in the cabin, everything you chuck in the back tray plus tow ball down weight).

But as you say you won’t be throwing anything in the tray and likely not towing anything big, it’s all irrelevant as a couple of bodies in the cabin will never have you seeing GVM/GCM issues.

If your question is really to somehow relate TARE weight, diff ratios and fuel consumption between sedans and utes, I think you’ll be banging your head against a wall for little real insight.

If you want good fuel consumption, best to keep the cover on the Ute and drive calmly but from what I’ve read you won’t see much below 10ltrs/100kms combined, real world figures will be about 11 to 12 but as always each persons mileage may vary

just looked at 09 Ve ute 3.6 4sp auto avg spped was 47kmh and fuel was 14L per 100 ouch(trip was at 4600kms)

Yes that is rather thirsty.
I hope that’s mostly city with lots of start stop?

I was surprised at the figure, our 3.6 dual fuel 4sp auto be is 13l on log petrol normally 11l.

That's thirsty as, I get max 11L with city driving and 8.5L highway. How is yours that high?

Could be a number of things heavy foot etc, o2 sensors definitely make a difference with that too if they’ve never been done
