I had a ticking noise coming from the engine and almost everyone i spoke to said "lifters". So yesterday i decided to take out the lifters and clean them. When i got to removeing the rockers, i discovered that one of the bolts holding a rocker was chipped off. The other half is stuck half way in! I guess that's what was causing the ticking noise. How the hell can i get it out??? Obviously, i want to get it out without damaging the threads or the block. I would greatly appreciate any help on this guys!
My suggestion is a drill n tap the thread again the same size, do an oil flush after without starting the engine to avoid metal particles floating around
Have U removed the rocker to see if U can get the bolt out with ur fingers or pliers? If not, buy a set of easy-outs or bolt extractors. Its a reverse thread which will after drilling a small hole U can ratchet the remaining bolt out. The rocker bolts are a one time use, they stretch.
Phect is on the money. Remove the rest of the rocker and try winding out the stub with your finger or a flat blade screw driver. Most of the time it will come right out of a machined hole in a cast iron block. No need for ezy outs what so ever. If it has lock tite or similar then give it a blast for a second or 2 with a blow torch. Reaper
