Hi team,

I am seeking advice as to how to open the bonnet after the cable has broken. The cable seems to be intact on the inside release lever so must have broken at the front end of cable.

Grab a long flat blade screwdriver, get onto your back and shimmy under the front of the car. The bonnet post has a slot for the screwdriver so you can unwind the post and release it from the bonnet. If the post lock nut is a bit tight, you’ll need an open ended spanner onto a screwdriver with a square shaft. I use the biggest screwdriver in the Stanley set. It’s about 350mm long.

With the early Commodores, you can actually flick the release lever from underneath...That's the lever the cable connects to right at the big bonnet release spring

Wonder whether this model is the same?

There is a plate under the release clip on the VS, you can't get at it. The only way is to undo the post as Grimes said.

I have done it with a long flat blade screwdriver from underneath but it is a pita to do. Need skinny arms lol
