VX Berlina 3.8L Ecotec
Hi Everyone. This is my first time here. So please be nice :)

I have had my VX Berlina Ecotec for about 3 years now. And i've got a question for all you Enthusiasts ! (Spelling)

Im ready for me 230k service and wanted to know what Oil to use. My Dad helps me service the car myself and recently (as in, last service) used 20w50. Due to the age of the car (Being a 2000 model) would it be in my best interest to use another weight oil ? Im jsut not sure if i should. And a mechanics opinion in my town changes more then a pair of undies do in their lifetime.

Any opinions no matter what they are would be appreciated :)

Andrew

P.S. I've attached a picture of the car for the lulz. Enjoy :)

Hi Andrew welcome to the forums, there is many threads on oils here and the problem is, they change opinions just like your mechanics undies :( hopefully someone can help but i feel you might get the same results

G'day Andrew,
nothing wrong with the 'good old 20/50'! Why do you think you should change? If it has served well over 3 years, it wll serve just as well for the next 3 years, even longer.
Has some deviant been spreading rumours around town again?....Though, asking a question around here is like opening a can of worms.
Good luck!

Kunu is right Andrew.. If I were you id keep using 20w 50 oil, your cars done high k's and it's recommended to use a thicker oil. I also use penrite in my car and have never had any problems with it :D

I should probably look to do mine actually.
Can't remember if it was 260,000 kms or 265,000 kms I last did it.
I'll wait till it gets to around 270,000 maybe :p

Too many to list......
Car looks like it's in good condition for the k's. I use 20W 50 in my wagon with 244,000km on the clock and 10W 40 Magnatec in my VX with 100,000 on the clock.

I've taken all your comments into consideration and decided to go with 20W 50 because of the k's on the clock. Thanks all :)
