I'm in the process of taking apart a lawn edger, and one of the wheel bearings has seized onto the shaft. Without damaging the plastic dust cover, what's the best way of removing the bearing in the least damaging way? I've tried knocking it sharply and using WD40 but those methods didn't work :b:

Had you posted this in the pub it wouldn't be off topic, would it :p

If you have a pair of locking pliars and you're able to get them on I'd recommend that, they're awfully useful those locking pliars

Can you tap it away gently with a chisel or punch?

I'm suprised WD-40 and knocking it won't dislodge it..

Maybe knock the bearing a bit harder and hold the chisel more horizontally.. Hitting the bottom of the bearing of course..

Keep hitting harder, as hard as you can without damaging anything..

put the shaft in a vice and belt the sh** out of the bearing using a drift against the base of the bearingto ensure you don't whack the shaft itself.

45 mins with a pair of vicegrips and WD40 worked, so much dirt and crap in there!
