Hey all, I am going to go out on a limb here and put myself on the internet firing line for all members of this forum. I have recently bought a '04 VZ Exec for my wife and found your website after a bit of internet searching on this model. Other than the 'off the cuff' remarks about cops, it seems that most of the threads on this website are pro road safety and seem to have an aim toward doing the right thing - which I very much respect. So....... I am a serving Police Oficer in SA of some 23 years. After 20 years of traffic policing (and seeing the worst of road fatalities) I transferred to the 'traffic training' side of the law. I now lecture to the general public on current road safety laws with a slant toward the choices, risks and consequences you make as drivers. I also lecture to the 4wd community (own a GU Patrol) and to Police in general on new road laws etc. I specialize in vehicle modification and how it may affect road safety. If any of you have questions of me (or DTEI modification inspectors) then ask away. I will do my best to answer any reasonable questions you have. For info - I love Commodores, having owned pretty much every model starting with a VC SLE then a VH to a VK to a VL and now with a VZ. I am willing to do all things reasonable to help you out - why? Because if I help you do the right thing then I am doing my own bit to protect my family and anyone else out there on our roads. Feel free to post something here or send me a private PM. Over to you guys........... Cheers, Paul.
Welcome to the forum mate. Should be good to have you around answering questions that so many are unsure about, who better to tell you what you can/cant do, then the one that will book you Hopefully respect is shown to you, no doubt it will be, theres a few other coppers get around on here from memory.
If you have anyone giving you grief, shoot one of us mods a pm and we will deal with the issue. Members liek your self are invaluable to online communities such as JC.

Welcome to the site mate! I have been to alot of other car forum sites and have always found JC to be a Great down to earth car forum without all the BS That comes with alot of other car sites! So welcome aboard and hope you feel welcome:thumbsup:
Like all aspects of life, theres a small minority who will say something insensitive or stupid, but generally most people here are pretty good. I might as well throw out the first question, why did you transfer departments? You mention bad fatalities, was that the reason for shifting or something else?
And_ROOS - fair enough question. I moved across to the 'training' side of things 3 years ago. I had been working at H/Hill P/S and went to a fatal on Fosters Rd, Hillcrest, which was pretty bad. It happened at 10.30 pm and I got home at 6.30 the next morning. I told my wife after 20 years in this job that was the last one when I started having nightmares. I was ready to quit when a mate suggested day shift and a job training other traffic cops. I haven't looked back. Day shift is great and with it comes a better quality of life. After a while I started to delve into 4wd vehicle modification as I am an avid 4wd'er which then led me to public speaking to just about all the 4wd clubs in SA. Next on my list will be car clubs. As for this website, SWMBO wanted to update the second car and I looked straight to the VZ's and that brought me to this website. That's me in a nut shell. I'm pretty casual about 'the job' now. It's just a job and I've found that joining websites like this is another way of reducing the road toll. So - thanks for the welcome guys and as Garth mentioned I am an SA cop, so some State laws are different, but ADR's and Vehicle Standards are fairly uniform throughout. And don't be suprised if I start asking questions too!! Cheers, Paul
