Hi all
First time poster.

I have a sv6 LLT commodore and the engine light came on and the code is P0008.

Car is running rough like it’s running on 3 cylinders.

had a mechanic come today who replaced plugs, oil, and detoxified the oil and fuel systems (whatever they mean). End result it’s running **** still and I’m out of pocket $400.

question is does this code mean timing chain 100%.

thanks in advance

Welcome to JC’s :p

Seems you paid for a service with overpriced oil flush and fuel injector cleaner additives…

If you paid via credit card, I’d ask for my money back since you wanted the fault repaired not a service (which in this context is a ripoff).

Have a look at the following thread (which I haven’t read through but should provide some info to build off)…

As he said check that forum but short answer - no, doesn't mean timing chain 100% that's why he started playing with plugs and things... lmao

So what my reply means is that P0008 can be caused by several issues, your mechanic has guessed at a few - is that clearer?

A code doesn’t do that because it’s the computer telling you what is broken. A code indicates a sensor or data is out of spec and you/a technician should know about that.

The code provides a starting point to diagnose the fault. A clue in the mystery. Look at it like this, has there even been an automotive murder or just a minor crime occurred?

There are multiple situations for that code to be set. The easy options need to be ruled out with evidence before moving on to the more serious of causes.

My LLT engine was doing this p0008 code intermittently for weeks and going into limp mode and Holden found a faulty wire going to the cam position sensor (I think but can’t remember as was 3 years ago) and replaced the wire and no more error codes or problems since.

thanks for all the responses. Turned out it was the chain. Just got it back and $2k lighter. Can’t believe it’s the same car though as it’s so responsive now. I just didn’t notice how the performance dropped over a period of time.
